dont like my Flowmaster 40's...what is mellower sounding?
i used to like my flowmaster 40's with stock manifolds and the stock 2 into 1 into 2 set up...but...
ive got headers now with 2 1/2" pipe true duals and they are too loud...
there ok driving her easy but when i get on it, it blats and barks too loud...
what would give me a nice mellow, medium loud sound?
i do not want to go with Flowmasters again...

Borla is the best sounding muffler I have ever heard on a C3. I bought them on Slickman's advice and it was excellent advice in my opinion. BTW, our engines look quite similiar, except mine is black where yours is orange. Mark

I got tired of all the noise and bought a set of Walker quietflows. I really like them!

I was warned against the 40s so I went with the 50s. Much more of a mellow tone but loud enough when on the go pedal.

To stay away from the sound of the all metal "multi-chambered" style mufflers like Flowmaster, etc, you can go with any of the fiberglass packed, straight thru mufflers. The ones I've seen are Dynomax UltraFlow, Borla, Edelbrock 304, and Magnaflow. I'm sure there are others.

You don't like the 40 series on true duals and headers? You know what they say, if it's too loud, you're too old :jester . All kinding though I was gonna recommend the Flowmaster Delta-Flow 50 series, until you said you didn't want Flowmaster. But, they should be much mellower than the regular 40 series, but still have a somewhat aggressive tone when you get on it. It's tough to get a suggestion on a muffler because everyone has a different idea of what loud is. You might also want to try adding in an H-pipe to mellow the sound too. Jeg's carries Flowmaster H-pipes for $40 and they should be pretty easy to weld into your existing exhaust system. Good Luck with whatever you choose

I have the Ultraflows and am quite pleased with them, easy to carry on a conversation and have a nice sound but not intrusive when I get on it. I leave the noise behind for others to enjoy (or not).

I think Delta 50's will fit the bill nicely, you can have a conversation on the highway with them without a problem, sometimes I wish they were a bit louder around town but you can't have everything but I'm happy with them.

STAY AWAY FROM FLO-PROS IF YOU DONT LIKE HOW LOUD THE FLOWMASTERS ARE. I AM ABOUT TO GO BACK TO THE FLOMASTERS FOR IT IS TOO LOUD. :nono:

I thing Ryan77 had a really good suggestion for smoothing out the roughness of the 40's, with a "H" pipe. No matter which you go back with add an H pipe, it'll give just a bit more performance and really mellow out the sound.

thanx to you all for your sugestions...
"You don't like the 40 series on true duals and headers? You know what they say, if it's too loud, you're too old :jester "
well...unfortunetly i am starting to get up there!

the reason that i dont want flowmasters again is that it kinda pops or backfires when i downshift and my mech (hes a hot rodder too) said that flowmasters are infamous for that and i will never get a flowmaster to NOT do that with my kind of setup...although it never did that with the stock setup...

i realize that...

i have an H pipe...

Re: dont like my Flowmaster 40's...what is mellower sounding? (SIGNGUY)
I've heard many types of mufflers on SBC. From Flowmaster, to DynoMax (Walker), Borla and Magnaflow, MAC and Hooker. I personally like th esound of the Hooker mufflers. The sound is similar to Flowmaster, but not as loud and tinny. Granted, my SS is an LS1, but click on my signature, I have video clips of the hooker with and without long tube headers (and ORY). Just another option. :yesnod:

:iagree:
Though I have to say, that with the new motor and headers, there is considerably more low-speed rumble now than with the OEM 350

SIGNGUY, I just put Cherry Bomb Turbo II's on my '50 Chevy P-UP w/ V-8.
They give it a nice and very decent rumble, just enough to let you know there is something there. They are the offset mufflers and will be putting them on my Vette here in the future, (when the weather is better). Best of all your local Auto Zone carries them for about $16.99 each.

How are noise by-laws enforced where members live? Do Police have decibel meters? I am not being facetious. I would love to hear from Police Officers on this subject. The more I look through the Borlas - straight through - the more I do wonder if I should install them or go with the Waller QuietFlows. Although I think that is what i already have  .

Which Hooker's? Aero Chamber or Maximum Flow. They have both in Summit catalog.
