OT: Gas prices
Just curious, what's everyone paying for gas? We're at $1.40 to $1.50 range for 91 octane. Unfortunately I have to put that in all my cars! AGH! I usually fill up with 92 or 93 octane. :steering: :auto:

Re: OT: Gas prices (RMVette)
For some reason, our part of town has the cheapest gas prices...which just went down.
$1.39 a gallon for 93 octane.
I have no idea about the lower grades because none of my vehicles like it!

I cannot believe how people complain about gas prices. Compared to everthing else today gas is as cheap as it was in 1960... a gallon of gas was 22 cents, a new car was $2000, a house cost 15K, bread was 18 cents a loaf and 10 cent would buy you a cup of coffee. Also... cars of today get a least twice the gas milage. SO quit whinnin' and enjoy your corvette :steering: :auto: :lolg:

Re: OT: Gas prices (BB wowbagger)
...I think we are paying 4$ a gallon....I just love our gasprices over here.. :cuss :cuss
We NEED $4/gal prices here (at least temporarily) to purge our roadways of this scourge! I go through about one tank a month on my vette (Sat. nite driver only), so higher prices won't affect the enjoyment of my hobby. My daily driver is a work van (necessary for my line of work) that gets 20mpg...businessmen and secretaries don't need lifted BB Chevy Suburbans to commute to their city jobs.
Most people complain about $4/gal...I can't wait. (with sincerest apologies to you daily-driver guys).

P.S. - Regular (85/87 octane here is $1.45) and I am not a commie!

I wasn't whinnin', I was just curious. After you remove the taxes from a gallon of gas, it's relatively inexpensive.

Danny: Let me ask you if you had 5 kids would you buy
A. A mini van (seats 7)
B. A SUV (seats 7)
Just curious as everyone seems to have a negative opinion of SUV's these day"s.
I picked an SUV I (my wife mostly) drive a Ford Expedition. Two reasons. 1. I hate mini vans. 2. I like it. I do not complain about gas prices my Vette (daily driver gets about 8 mpg. My "SUV" gets 11 and is a lot more enviromently friendly than my Vette is.

Yes, your SUV gets better gas mileage than your vette, but a VW Golf gets better gas mileage than your SUV. Walking to the park and school beats both.
Gasoline is in limited supply, harms the atmosphere and gives the towelheads a hand on the noose around our necks. I believe individuals should be limited to operating the miniumum vehicle as necessary suited to complete their daily chores/employment. A construction supervisor who hauls lumber and traverses muddy sites needs an SUV. Soccer moms do not. Legislation cannot accomplish this (political suicide for any politician who even suggests it), but $4/gal. gasoline would.

I pay about $1.45 to $1.55 for 87 octane in NH/MA area.
None of my cars needs any more than 87 - yet.
easy now, guys - no rassling in the forum.
I'm afraid I have to disagree with the following quote, as this reasoning would never allow us to drive the vette - since it is not really suited to complete
daily chores/employment. Unless you are a tire tester at BFG - smokin' 'em all day long.

My (counter)point is this...SUV's are the result of a marketing scheme by the Big 3 to revive car sales. SUV's (or any other gas hog) are not necessary for daily life and are over-kill for mom's driving their kids to school. Senior citizens don't need Mercury Grand Marquis and the punk working in the video store doesn't need a 8' tall 4WD Dodge Ram. I've been to Europe and everything seems to work very nicely there with $4/gal. gasoline (actually, it was $4.50/gal in Ireland).
Anyway, y'all are preaching to the choir, here. This is a high-horsepower, high-octane site devoted to the hot-rodding and preservation of America's Sports Car. Try posting some of your arguments for SUV's on a limp-wristed tree-hugging GreenPeace-sponsored site and see what happens. They'll track you down, skin you alive with a Swiss Army knife and bury your remains in a Birkenstock box.

Right now we are at $1.46 for 87 and 89 (10% ethanol) and then $1.56 for 92. I'll be running 92 this summer, so it'll probably be around $1.70 by then. Meh, I don't mind, Corvettes are too much fun.

Re: OT: Gas prices (Schmucker)
I certainly don't mind paying the cost of a gallon of gas! As Americans we have it pretty good. My '70 is a weekend/fair weather car where as my '98 is a daily driver. And my '98 actually gets better gas mileage than my Mercedes. The C5 gets 21 mpg in town and 31/32 on the highway. I do feel that gas is a limited resource and one day will be gone. Not sure if that will occur in my lifetime but I'd like to leave this earth thinking that there's a replacement for my future children. ANYWAY I didn't mean to stir up such a debate! I enjoy polluting, killing trees and burning fossel fuels! (JOKING!) Okay, now for a :grouphug: !

Sorry for de-railing your post Robert, that is why I started the other. But I guess it ran out of "gas".
BTW $1.39. The wife just filled up the SUV.
