Re: SPEEDO GEAR (1970LS6)
I think you have a gear from an automatic car. They are usually bigger gears. The Muncie gears are smaller as you have indicated. The Muncie gears are from about 18 to 25 teeth and the auto gears are from 34 to 45 teeth.

Re: SPEEDO GEAR (1970LS6)
How many teeth are on the gear. Is the Trans that it came from a Vette or something different. If I remember right some of the Muncies had the gear on the drivers side of the trans and the hole might have been bigger.
I am using a 22 tooth silver gear. It is the small gear. I have 3.70 gears with 245 60 15 tires. Mine is within 1 or 2 mph

Can't help you but you might be able to help me. I took my 3:36 rear out and put in a 4:11. Do you have to pull the 4 speed to change the speedo gear or is it accessible on the car? I haven't bought the gar yet because I won't pull a transmission to correct the speed but if its simple I'll buy the gear.

Very simple to do. It is a small 1/4 inch bolt that you loosen and swing down the little bracket. You can then pull out the unit. It is easier with the speedo cable still hooked up. The plastic gear should come out with it. remove the gear and replace with a correct one. Should take about 5 minutes once the car is in the air.
