Default -69 engine dilemma and tank sticker restoration

My friend have a -69 convertible and he is doing body off restoration. He found a tank sticker but it is in very bad condition. Anyway he could read from that words "turbo-jet", but everything else in that line are unreadable... I suppose turbo-jet was big block and turbo-fire was small block? Things got interestingg because he thought that the car was small block, even though the engine is not #'s match... He could also read ignitoin: ....... full transistor", obviously meaning option K66 Transistor ignition, again the code paraghraph is unreadable...

We suppose that one thing to clarify the original engine is tachometer, red line starts at 6000rpm. What big blocks had red line starting at 6000 in -69? Solid lifters had higher red line, am I right?

Do you have any ideas how to restore the tank sticker to get more options out of it? My friend also find out that the car was delivered with original HT, but that's about it.

Can anybody help?

Tach red lines (not yellow/orange)
Base 5300
L-46..(350/350)...6000
L-36 & L-68...5600
L-71 & L-88...6500

Hope this helps

Thanks silver! It seems that the tachometer is changed... The red line starts at 600rpm, the orange earlier. Here is somekind of a picture about the tacho I'm talking about.

Highest reading is 70 (x100rpm), next 6500 and then 6000, right where red line starts...

Ok... then... check this out. All BB cars had a rear sway bar. Do you have a BB hood? As for the tank sticker... I put mine into Photoshop and tried to enhance some of the unreadable parts. I had limited results but I'm not experienced doing that. Try it !

Car is obviously original BB, because the tank sticker says Turbo-Jet. The guestion is which BB there was originally. Is there any other way to find that than restoring the tank sticker?

About all you can do is narrow it down. If you have two fuel lines (one is a return) going to the tank, your car came with a Quadr-jet equipped engine. Those were the base 350 or the 390 h.p. 427.

Thanks Silver! That is a good info! Is there any other things to narrow down the possibilities?

I'm still trying to wake up... I'll think about it at work and post later. :jester . IF your car had A/C ... (Iknow it doesn't)....it would be easy, since A/C was only available on the 390 & 400hp BB's

Have you tried scanning the tank sticker and then using software to make it more legible. I have a fair to good tank sticker on my 72 but about 25% of it is not legible. I was able to use software to change things and now about 98% of it is as clear as the day it was typed.
