Which would you Prefer? Standard trans. or Automatic trans. in your vette? And why?

Automatic.
When I was younger I had lots of manual tranny's. I just don't want to have to be bothered with shifting anymore.

I had 4 speeds in a '65 GTO, '64 C2 fuelie, "66 C2 427, '71 C3 454 and by the time I got the '76 C3, I was sick of shifting. Besides, I was never any good at it. I did the opposite of most people. I pulled the T10 out and replaced it with a TH350 when the car was 6 months old, and later a TH400. I felt I could get better and more consistant hole shots and times.

Re: Automatic or Standard transmission? (9SecVette)
I was driving home from a night out with a woman one evening when she mentioned she wasn't wearing underwear under her mini-skirt...
I'm glad I chose an auto.

Manual!
Unless your wife can't drive a stick and you want no hassle in spending whatever on the vette.
Then she only drives it twice in 4 years(I love that tho)

Re: Automatic or Standard transmission? (9SecVette)
When I bought the Vette it was being set up as a drag only car with an automatic. Later I bought a 68. Before I got rid of the 68 I traded the transmissions out. My car was orig. a L71 manual. So I had the same car with both. I like a manual best and got a 6 speed in my new Camaro and it is great. However, here in Austin where you can spend 30-45 min. in the morning and afternoon in bumper to bumper traffic inching along with the clutch neither out nor in is a problem sometimes.

Converted my TH350 76 Stingray to a 5 spd manual. No regrets. It's just a lot more fun to drive now, and its faster :yesnod: :yesnod: .
For drag racing though you can't beat an automatic. Have one in my Cutlass and wouldn't trade it for a manual. Need consistancy when drag racing.
