Before and after pics from last night - POR on birdcage
Hey folks,
I have been blessed with an entire weekend 'off'.
My wife said last week "I'm taking the kids up to Killington this weekend."
I did about 10 mental rewinds: I'm - I'm - I'm - I'm ... Yup - she didn't say WE.
About 300 milliseconds later my mind is in the garage, planning a productive weekend.
Then plans changed ! She'll be dropping the kids off with her mom, and
coming home Sunday.
I call her this morning and - BAM - She's staying up after all !!! :smash: :hurray: :smash:
Last night, I got the birdcage all cleaned up and hit it with a good coat of POR-15.
Today, I will be applying the POR putty, making everything smooth and pretty.
By tonight, it should be all wrapped up in semi-flat black and ready for the firewall.
Stay tuned for more detailed pics, but for now - here is a before and after.
Also, a pic of what happens when you get a hole in your glove and don't know it.
60 grit sandpaper and a nail file eventually got most of it off. :D :seeya

Looking good.
Are you using a POR15 black or a regular black spray paint like epoxy or enamel or ?
Well off to the book store. Im looking for the latest Vette mag issue with 69myway article. I let my subscription run out temporarily. :seeya

Brent - I use the POR-15 in silver. This gives good contrast to the underlying
surface, and also to the overcoat of black. This way, coverage is easily seen.
When the POR gets tacky, I give it a light coat of Krylon Semi-flat Black.
I did this after taking the 'after' pic from last night. This morning found me placing
the POR putty in all of the voids and seams of the windshield frame. I made
sure that the entire surface that meets the windshield is perfectly smooth.
Some more pics from today below ...
Dave - I like the way you think. I was trying to get more of the box cutter in the picture -
with that exact idea in mind.

Mark - Oohhh - I wanna come over soon before you start putting the chassis
all back together. We need to talk to the other Mark soon and make the local rounds. Maybe next weekend ?

mpro72,
Sorry to tag on a thread, but do you have any pics or plans for that body dolly in your sig? We're about to build one to begin work on our body and that's looks like a very usable configuration, and a pretty straightforward way to build it.
If so, you don't need to post, you can send it to me email at rkeithjohnson@mindspring.com
Thanks

I'm getting ready to build my body dolly in the next couple weeks.
I'm going to modify another members design. It will use 10" swivel
casters and - if my ideas all work out - it will roll over a chassis without
wheels. I have the plans that were forwarded to me, but they are at work.
If your interested. I can show you them tomorrow ...

Dave, I won't be able to do anything next weekend, me and the wife are taking off for a little while, I have to start paying her back for letting me have the vette. I'll be around tomorrow if you want to stop by. You made that frame look like new, very impressive, I wish I had the skill to do it.

Ok Mark - No - I have to work tomorrow.
Here is thelast update I'm posting here. I ran out of Krylon, so I'll finish it
in a day or two. I did manage to get a good finish coat on most of the WS
frame. Here is one shot of the passenger side lower corner.
