Default Stock wheels, hub or lug centric?

From my understanding, hub centric is when the wheel "sits" on the hub and the lug nuts just keep it from coming off. Lug centric is where the lugs hold the wheel and the center of the wheel is not in contact with the hub.

I have the Wheel Vintiques 17" ralley wheels. They appear to be lug centric. Is this what the stock wheels are?

Also, I read that for lug centric wheels, you need to torque the lug nuts down when the wheels are in the air so that they center correctly.

Hmmmm. Hub centric usually means that there is a raised area (a ring) on the hub and the center of the wheel fits over it to center it.

Lug centric usually means that the hub/disc is flat and the lugs center the wheel. I believe that the C3 is lug centric.

My buddies BMW is hub centric

Factory wheels on Vettes are definitely centered by the lug nuts. :D

My factory aluminum wheels are centered on the hub. I don't remember if the steel rally wheels used to be or not, but I would think so. Most OEM wheels I've seen center on the hub.

anything that uses tapered/cone shaped lug nuts is lug centric....

and then there is the straight legged lug nuts with washers used on lots of mag wheels...like say a '78 vette....they have a flat land around them the washers on the nuts fit into....yet another way to make it lug centric....don't ask how I know this.....but the '78 vette nuts may also have a built in casting to them...over the legg portion...wide flat surface that grips into the machined wheel surface, yet another variation....but still lug centric....

In fact of all the cars I have worked on...I think they are all lug centric...
that have typical lug nuts that is....
