Default GRANDSPORTC3 Racing Results...

Well - my day at the track didn't turn out as planned... I was pretty sure that I would get into 11's.. but I didn't make it again.. Well - everything was perfect...exept this F'n clutch linkage.. It's a little loose and - even with adjustments - I was hardly able to shift... and if I was able to shift - I had to ease the gears in slowly... :( :( :(..

Well - even though I had all those problems - I still managed to get a new best R/T,ET, MPH and 60 foot time...

If I would have been able to shift when pulling my best 60' time - I would have probably been in the 11.70's or 11.80...

Here is my new best 60' time:

1.591

Can you believe that... NO NOS, NO SUPERCHARGER and a 1.50's 60' time...
For those who don't believe - I will post the time slip later..
Well - I wasn't able to shift into any of the gears and ended up running only

12.577 @ 98.93 mph at this run... Well - if you can't shift - it's difficult...

I was actually pulling 1.591 - 1.659 at 5 of six of my runs... The tires were only spinning when I did my last run... and I got a 1.844 60' time...

Well - there was only one run that I only had problems with 1 shift (2 - 3) which ended up being my best of the day...

R/T........ .754
60'......... 1.649
330'....... 5.161
1/8 ....... 7.907
mph ...... 89.85
1000' ..... 10.252
1/4 ........ 12.187
mph ...... 116.42

My second best run is below... I was able to shift a little better at that run.... but still wasn't able to hit 11's - especially because the bad 60' time...

R/T ....... .550
60' ....... 1.844
330'...... 5.419
1/8 .......8.167
mph ..... 90.03
1000' ... 10.510
1/4 ...... 12.445
mph...... 116.32

Here is the run with the best R/T.. (but I was not able to shift at this run :( )

R/T ..... .513 :D :D :D
60' ..... 1.655 :D
330' .... 5.217 :(
1/8 .....8.325 :(
mph ... 84.18 :(
1000'... 10.807 :(
1/4 ..... 12.826 :(
mph..... 112.30

Well - I guess that this sums it up...

Olivier

Stuff happens when you drag race Olivier. Years back I trailered my '69 Muncie 4-spd vette to the Ford-Chevy Drags in Gulfport, Miss. I had just had a Chevy dealer rebuild the tranny weeks before and every time trial I did it got harder & harder to shift. I was jamming it into gears to make it shift. I finally just put it on the trailer and took it home after the event was over.

At home I jacked the car up and found the tranny shifted off to one side at the yoke. Seems I left the transmission mount bolts off when I reinstalled it. On the streets there was no problem... yeehahing down the race track ripping through those gears is not for an unbolted tranny.

Oppps!

In my case... it could be just the linkage... or any other problem with the clutch.. Don't know for sure...

Congrats man. that is one bad hot rod you got there. Still cant believe you got that much power for only 3 grand  I wish i put that in my car. The way my car lauches i would be mid to low 11 for sure :yesnod: I dont even have 300 rwhp and im running 12.6-12.7 all day @ only 106  Cant wait till I have enough money to get a better motor. YOU ARE THE MAN. :seeya

I took a risk when buying that engine.. It sounded way too cheap for that kind of power... but I got lucky.. I ran the engine all day long at the strip and no problems at all... I also drove 240 miles to get back home.. I actually got 16+ mpg... (thanks to my overdrive :D :D)
Everything on my run indicated mid 11's potential... Now - I just have to find a solution for the clutch linkage problem and I should be at least 11.80's...

Well - with powershifting - the car should run low to mid 11's.. However - I prefer to granny shift - to increase transmission and clutch life... I also don't have a scattershield.... so I stick with my granny shifting...

Great runs !!! 1.5 60ft is awesome. That big first gear of that TKO helps alot.
I wish I had a TKO. A 7.80 should be a 12.00. When you start running 7.7's (1/8) your in the 11.90 range. Whats wrong with your linkage?

Give it time, it will happen as you already know. After a full season of 11's you will most likely want 10's, but for now you have a great combination because you can drive all over the state and still bust some rears (no punt intended) at the dragstrip. Maybe we will get side by side a Bradenton sometime this year. Have you seen the taillights of a 75 lately? All in good fun, :seeya

The 3.27 first gear is awsome.. especially in combination with my 3.73 rear gears.....

I actually did a 7.80 already at another run... and only ran 12.19 (at Moroso a few weeks back)..

The problem with the linkage is very difficult to explain... The part of the linkage that pivots is loose... It can be moved left and right by 1.5 to 2 inches... and changes the angle of the rod that operates the clutch...

Olivier

Are you talking about the Z bar moving in and out on the ball stud in the block.

That could be it... There is a rod that connects the linkage to the block.. There is a tube on top of the rod that pivots when you press the clutch pedal and it engages the clutch... However - the tube that pivots on the rod is loose and can be moved by approx. 2 inches left/right... changing the angle of the clutch operation rod....

The rod is the pivot ball. The tube that goes over it is part of teh Z bar. The other side should have a stud poking out of it and that is what rests inside the bracket welded to the frame. The nut on the stud should be tight not allowing the "tube" to slide back and forth. MAke sure the nut is there and tight. It should not move at all
