Half shaft U joint removal ?
I need to replace one of the half shaft u joints on the drivers side of my 1980 L82. What type of tool is required to remove the u joint? I noticed that it is not a standard type of bolt head... ? Help !!

The bolt heads are just a 12 point head. Nothing special. BUT .... half shaft U joints can be a real bit** to get apart, especially if they haven't been done in a few years. Do them all at the same time and use SPICERS... Do not use cheap ones or you will be doing it again in a few months. Something about half shafts ......A small press really helps but you need to supprt the end of the half shaft so it doen't get sprung. Study the process to decide how to do it. They are not a hammer and socket job...remember no :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:

Kevlore,
Get a good quality 12 point socket and make sure it is tight on the bolt. Rounding the heads is not a good thing to do.
6 point replacement bolts are available.
You might search the archives for u-joint replacement techniques. At least you don't have to fool with the flange.
