Can Vortec heads be machined for non center bolt valve covers?
Has anyone done this or know if it can be done. Also, if any one knows of a place the will sell vortec heads already machined. Thanks, Jesse D. :cheers:

Not sure if there is enough meat there but you could get some extra material welded in there. Trick Flow makes an adaptor but it is about $100. Check Summit's website.

May be less expensive to purchase a set of GM 24502540 Adapters used to bolt flange mount valve covers (1958-87) to 87 and us style heads.
They are in the GM Performance Parts Catalog.

I think Scoggin-Dickey in Lubbock Tx, sells the heads already set up and machined for high lift springs, I agree that the adapters would probably be better in the long run. But, if not I know of one guy who had small tabs welded on the heads, then had then drilled and tapped. It cost him like $75.00 to do them.

Jeg's has adapters from GM performance parts, but they around are around $175 :eek:

The GM fastburn Aluminum heads have a provision for both center and outboard attachment.JIM

Mines have been machined for conventionnal valve cover. It costed 75$ canadian. You'll have to find a shop near you that can do it. My machinist did holes an welded inserts in them. It don't even show from the exterior. I wanted that to keep the original look.
