Re: This price seems a bit HIGH to me (Alwyn678)
The reason is clued in the web page: "Restoration just finished by XXX" so they just PAID someone to make it an NCRS classic car.
YEA!! It looks like a great car ... :iagree: ... but at that price? :nono:

The flash on the rear quarter panel in the one photo makes it look like it was even repainted in lacquer. Definitely no element overlooked in the job.
Such a beautiful car! Even the godawful 60's tires are on there.

Nice vette but look at the charger daytona in front of it. I wouldn't say no to the judge either
I know the car... Had a chance to buy it about ten years ago when it still needed restored. As is usually the case, I had too many projects going on at the time and decided to pass on it. Ken and Gary Nabers have an outstanding reputation in the restoration end of the hobby... I'm sure that is why the seller mentioned it in the ad. Personally, I don't care who restores the car as long as it is done correctly; you can bet that Ken and Gary did it right.
The car looks absolutely fantastic! Excellent color combination to go along with the L-89 and N-14 options. I personally think the price is high, but I honestly hope he gets it.

He needs to hang on to that baby.
Did you notice his trophy stand (BIG).
It's not even half full. He needs to keep that trophy winner for a while.

Top Flight October '02.... would that have been a regional? I will have to check the calendar. Always amazes me how small the original tires are - they don't fill up the wheel wells at all - I dont like the look, even if it is original. MJ

Top Flight - October 2002
MJ,
My guess is Waco, TX which I know was in that time frame... Only regional that I missed last year. The seller is located in Texas as well which is some additional circumstantial evidence.
Pedro,
Personally, that is my absolute favorite color combination. The red interior during the 1969 model year was a very bright shade and provides a really sharp contrast to the black exterior.
Very cool!

Re: This price seems a bit HIGH to me (Rowdy Rat)
Stan,
I know Ken and Gary for 2 decades and they do perform magnificent work, especially on big blocks. Years ago with a very straight face, Ken once said to me “If it doesn’t have 14 valve cover bolts, it’s not a Corvette”. I made him a frame stencil with that phrase for the shop.
All that aside, I think this particular 69 L-89 is priced a tad too high. This past year there was a triple Black L-89 convertible with many side pipes and many options and BG plus Camel Rider awards. A totally restored real one with documents and asking $85K. The same dealer still has a real 17K mile Red 68 L-89 convertible that has documents and almost every award asking $89K. In Florida I had an old customer selling a triple Black 69 L-89 coupe with dual disc clutch and low miles. Also real with documents and asking $62K.
Remember, when you decide to unload your old car to call me. I still have interest and it will give you an opportunity to get some of the green back. Thanks for the order last week. Although, I don’t get to the warehouse anymore, I do see a summary of activities.
Have your tried out that complimentary C3 mouse pad with the 100K internet guarantee? I have several in use and to be completely honest, my ***** have never been cleaner and I seldom have to interrupt my work to clean them. :D

Re: This price seems a bit HIGH to me
Geoffrey,
I agree... The car in question is priced much higher than the market will bear. I guess that for purely selfish reasons, I'd love to see him get what he's asking as it might push the prices for all L-89s up (with yours and mine along for the ride).
I seem to recall a triple black car that was on consignment at Mike Vietro's place in California for around $85,000... Probably the car that you are referring to (from your post, it sounds like he still has Roy's old '68 too). A gentleman down in Arkansas had a black/red L-89 convertible (white top, side exhaust added after the fact) that was for sale in the $80,000 range (also good paper and NCRS/Bloomington awards). If your old customer happens to be Mike, the dentist, then I have seen his black/black coupe as well. I thought it was an outstanding car when I saw it in Florida four years ago... Seem to remember the asking price at $55,000 at that time. There is a neat red/black '69 L-89 convertible in Maryland, no side exhaust, not a show piece, but a real 40,000 mile car with original paint... Not sure if he'd sell it, but I can see if I can find his telephone number if it is of interest to you.
Right now I'm hot for picking up a '69 L-88. While I do intend to sell a couple of my cars, I would like to do it without selling the L-89 which was the main reason why I was reluctant to put a price on the car the last time we discussed it. If I do decide to sell, I'll certainly be in touch and I appreciate your continued interest.
You're quite welcome for the order. The parts are always of excellent quality (GM or reproduction) and the service is top notch... Had the parts in two days, as promised.
The mouse pad was great, thanks! You had me scratching my head on that one. I can usually identify the parts I order quite easily... This one generated a "What the..." response until I had a chance to read the identification label in the bag. :)

Re: This price seems a bit HIGH to me (Rowdy Rat)
Stan,
Although I watched much of the BJ auction – this one slipped by. It may not have been one that was televised. LOT #628 - NO RESERVE. 1968 Corvette Bronze convertible VIN - 194678S404553
From the BJ web site - QUOTE
“This rare factory 427-435 horse power corvette was recently found resting in a barn in south west washington after nearly two decades of storage. After some minor maintenance and general cleaning the decision was made to sell here at barrett-jackson, hopefully to a true purist. Equipment includes l-89 aluminum heads, 4 speed, power steering, power disc brakes, power windows, telescopic column, am/fm radio, speed warning and original paint color "corvette bronze". The tires are the originals and the factory tank sticker is also included. Drives and performs outstanding.”
Sold for $41,040 and that included the commission, so it was bid to $38,000. In the photo on the BJ web site – it “looked” decent. http://www.barrett-jackson.com/aucti....asp?id=171993
Regarding the other L-89 convertible, I would be interested to learn more.
