Whats the remedy for soft plastic?
my interior plastic, such as the dash, are very soft. the car has been garage stored for 8 years and when i went to try and remove the front speaker covers my fingers started to turn black and when i was using a screwdriver(a small one) it put dents into the dash cover. also the black went away to reveal red. anybody know how to fix this?

The black could be an old vinyl dye that never quite settled right, and is now coming up. Could also be some kind of strange trim restorant.
Sounds like your car was red inside originally. Does the actual plastic dent, or does it seem mostly like a surface dent?

its like when you touch warm choclate, you know how when you remove your hand you ave left an imprint? well thats what happened with the screwdriver. ya i think you may be right about the dash cover being previously red because it was replaced by a bodyshop 10 years ago.

I think a lot of trim started out as red.
When I look at the pieces I have removed from the 75 (original blk int),
the vinyl covering appears to have been red to start - and factory dyed to
black. You can see it peeking out aroung the edge where the vinyl was cut.
Why it's soft - your guess is as good as mine.
Sounds like it was exposed to some kind of chemical that has softened it.
Is the underlying red vinyl soft, too ?
Huh
