Default Delay When I Stomp On It

Mornin' everyone!

I have about 1500 miles on a new engine (ZZ4) when I am driving and the engine is warm if I stomp on it there is a delay (maybe like 1-1.5 seconds) before she busts out and flies. Is this normal or do I have issues with my carb. After the delay she will roar to life and fly!

Bare in mind that I am basically dumb about mechanics and if I'm not using the correct terminology I apologize.

I was thinking it could either be the throttle cable or problems with the secondaries on the carb. Maybe this is normal though...someone help me out!

Thanks a ton guys!

Dan
It is because it is so cold here in Central Fl lately.
It is probably just in need of a fuel/air mixture tweek. Check your timing also. I am sure it is something simple. Mine was doing the same a couple weeks ago I leaned it out a little and it is running great. After I warm it up. Don't we live in Florida???

Sounds like the accelerator pump and shooter is not setup properly for your engine. What carb?

76RED - It was chilly this morning! Supposed to be in the 30's this weekend from what I heard...COLD. Hopefully none of the guys from the Great White North read that! Hey, maybe my blood has thinned out after 20 years in FL.

I have an Edelbrock/Carter. I have no idea what fuel pump I have and no idea what the "Shooter" is! I swear all you guys make me feel so dumb! :yesnod: I need to learn more about my car!

Dan those Edelbrocks are pretty easy carbs. It has been awhile since I have played with one. I will let the guy's that like them chime in. I had one I could not do much with it probably needed rebuilt. I ended up with a Holley.

I have been like that since my first winter here. I thought you could swim all year here.  I need to replace my heater core and that is not just for the defrosters like I keep telling everyone.

I had the same problem with my car. 76 L-48.
I took it in and had a friend of mine rebuild the q-jet (while Lars lent me another).
The car has run better ever since.
I would look at the carb.
Good Luck!

I heard it. Chilly ? It was -5 yesterday morning - all the way up to +3 this
morning. A few more degrees and I'll be ready to open the pool for the season.

BTW - what intake manifold are you running. A high revving single plane intake
will cause symptoms like you describe. Also - I agree - look at accelerator
pump operation and timing to help adjust it.

Ooops! Sorry to complain about 30 somethng degrees, that's the low by the way. The high will probably be around 50-60 degrees.

I'm running the stock ZZ4 intake (don't know exactly what that is). I don't even know how to adjust the mixture so I'm reluctant to mess with it oo much. Another guy I work with agreed with you guys and suggested looking at the accelerator pump. Maybe I'll take it to someone to have that checked out. I hate to think I'll need a new carb...~$300 buck sure would look better in my console where the stereo is supposed to go!

Thanks for all the info...NHVette: STAY WARM! My sister lives in Goffstown and I know she's cold!

Haha - my brother-in-law lives in Cocoa Beach (USAF geologist).
Don't worry about me - I'll be the one out in the yard getting firewood -
at 6AM - wearing just shorts (or maybe less) :p:
