Default Standard Rear Axle Ratios for 1975 L-48 and L-82 Automatics???

Does anyone know what the standard rear axle ratios were for the 1975 L-48 and L-82 automatics? Were they different from the manual transmission cars? Thanks for any info you may be able to provide!

I think all the TH400s in 75 had 3.08 unless optioned otherwise.

My guess would be 3:55 or 3:70.

My '75 auto is 3.08:1. The way to tell for sure is to check the code on the bottom of the differential. I think that 3.08 posi is "AW". Can't remember if I had to remove the mud shield thingy to read that or not...

A little off topic...but wasn't the L82 pretty rare in 1975 due to emissions problems?

I am not sure for '75, but the ratios for 73 were 3.08 for the L48 auto and 3.55 for the L82 auto. Optional for the L48/auto was 3.36 and for the L82/auto was 3.70. But again this was for 73.

My sources show codes for 1975 as:

AA= 3.55:1 posi
AB= 3.70:1 posi
AC= 4.11:1 posi
AY= 2.73:1 posi
AW= 3.08:1 posi
AX= 3.36:1 posi
LR= 3.36:1 posi

Hope it helps :seeya

This is exactly right. I even had the pleasure of discussing this with Dave McLelland and he said emission certifying of the "L-82" was very hard, one of the main reasons the 454 was dropped in '74. Only 2372 L-82s were ever built in '75 making them fairly rare-most I see are L-48s with L-82 emblems. Out of the "60" some L-82s I have in my "1975 L-82" Survey(out of 2372), the EARLIEST car was built about the 2nd week of March 1975. Talked to several original owners and said they had waited 6-7 months for their car.

My 1975 L-82 Coupe has the "standard" AX 3.36 ratio. The 3.55s were the "optional" ratio with the Turbo 400 transmission. :yesnod:
