I think Chevy should bring back the C-3's!
I was surfing the web today and stumbled on a new Vette.Check it out 400 hp,gets 13 mpg and cost $65K. I think I'm into mine for $20k now,$5K of which is the 406 I just put in. Can you imagine if GM started up the C-3 body style, with the punch of a 406? I would buy one instead of the Z06!

It wouldn't be fun to own unless Chevy could produce it with all the quirks and snags ours have. What would the owners do in their spare time?

The Naderites and Greens would never allow a new C-3 to be produced. Unless it had all the "enhancements" of the C-5. So if that's what you want, buy a wrecked C-5 and find a way to adapt a C-3 body to it.
Along the way you could take the new GEN III engine bore and stroke it out to 434. Now that would be a screaming machine! Handle like a C-5 and look like a C-3.
It's a nice dream, my be if I ever win the lotto I'll take on a project like that, I bet you could spend more money on it than Steve (Merlin) did on his car!
There is a company that will take find a C-3 chassis and build you a "brand-new" C-3. There was a link to this company a couple of months ago, it was sort of expensive, but probably no more expensive than if one of us (if we had the skill) were to do the same thing, and replace every part of a C-3 with new or like new refinished parts. I think it was somewhere around $65K for a Big Block convertible.

I say make the C6 with the C3 lines and take the 6.0L out of the Denali and punch it out to 427ci and a 6speed.

no doubt about it. in my opinion 68'-80' was the best years for the vettes. that would be great of they started to make "new, old" ones.

The Money Pit,
A C3 does not have the ubiquitous "Jelly Bean" shape. How would they get it past their marketing?
Manufacturers build  concept cars - then they produce :U
Find out what the public wants - then take it away from them! :mad
The Fxxd dealers here are $7-10K over MSRP on T-Birds. Can you imagine what the premium to MSRP would be on a great looking 2005 C3?

PERFORMANCE wise the only thing that comes to mind is that stiffer than teenaged dick C5 chassis/frame...THAT and the fully independant wish bone rear suspension is about all I really covet from the C5.....
the airbags would have to be included.....I"m not sure about the chrome bumpers....but they could be done in brushed aluminum and still look great...
I see NO particular advantage to an aluminum engine block, other than weight, which is somehow taken up in the C5 with additional wiring weight to do all the fancy dan crap that adds to failure rate with time....
Obviously 400+ hp is mandatory, o/drive, and wide tires/wheels...nice THICK rotors would be nice also...liike the C3 rotors, not that new thin junk.....
GENE :D :D

Gene,
Agreed, but would it have the SOUL of a genuine C3?
Interesting metaphor (or is it a simile?)

Interesting thought. But it would no doubt be too expensive and too trendy. For 1/4 - 1/3 the price, I could just keep mine. :)
And our cars wouldn't be as unique either!
But I do hope that more people continue to modify their C3s so that companies continue to pump out cool upgraded bits for our cars. :)

Given the trend towards retro styling, I suspect that we will see a vette in the future with styling cues from the C3s.

I
I think it's a similie:

It would be killer though, but then every schmendrick with $50K would buy one and never wave! :seeya

Re: I think Chevy should bring back the C-3's! (Robert N)
Hydroformed, stiff light frame.
Modern, lightweight suspension parts.
Yeah, a modern C3 would definately have its upsides.
The body would have to be changed somewhat though. Aerodynamically the C3 is behind the C5 by a decent margin so the size/shape would be changed without question. I've often wondered how much the C3 could be improved without destroying its looks.
I have always thought it would be cool to design a tubular chassis using C5 suspension components but accept the C3 body.

Geez, Gene, you are describing my rebuild to a T. About the only thing we can do is replacate the C5 hydroformed frame.
