I'd like to think it would be worth somewhere around 15-16k. But then again, I'm both prejudice and an optimist. :D
A lot of things would depend though. Even though only 36k on the car and suppose to be in Excellent Condition, that doesn't mean it needs nothing. I would still suggest looking the car over from top to bottom and front to back if you haven't already. And if not experienced in what to look for, bring a Vette friend along.

From the 2002 price guide. L82 4spd
#1 condition-$21k
#2-$17,7k
#3-$14,5k
#4-$11,5k
#5-$8k
add 25-50% for unrestored original
add 15% for Silver Anniversary Paint.
Seems a little high, but depends on supply/demand.

At Carlisle last Aug. I saw a few SA's with the L82 and 4spd for sale between 6-8k, made me wish I hadn't bought mine spur of the moment and actually looked around.

The numbers do look high...but i like them! I've heard recently that due to poor performance of stock market...investors looking at more solid investments like sports cars! Looking at the numbers from that perspective...it makes sense. I would take $18k for my 78 all day long with a nice warm feeling.

The numbers in those calculators always look high.
I paid $6000 Cdn for my 78 SA 4 speed L-82, but it needed A LOT of work.

i got mine for 4,000 hahaha that was a steal for that car. outside only had one problem and water spots, that was buffed out before the sun went down the first day i had the car. The seats and carpet were tore up no big deal floor mats and seat covers for the time being. dash was cracked but other than that the engine was kept up.
just needed some TLC

Re: Value of a 25th anniversary vette? (e-bluevette)
I purchased a SA last Oct. It has 30000 miles and was origional except for the tires. Still has the origional spare, complete with bright yellow rim. The car had been stored since 88. Paid $7k for it and have been cleaning and replacing parts ever since!! Brakes (complete with park brake kit) alone will run close to $700. Storage isn't always the best, especially in northern MN. Lots of temp change and condensation causing problems. Body was not affected, just the parts with rubber components. Anyway, I hope to have it rode ready for < $10k. Just do like I did, get the best price you can, dive in and have fun.

Re: Value of a 25th anniversary vette? (78 Dave)
Dave makes an interesting point and since we're talking about 78's...how about the running change on the yellow rim? By 79 production, Corvette was doing those rims in black.
My 78 was built in Nov 77 and is yellow. How about the others...what color rim and what is your car's build date? We may have to do another topic but I would be curious to see if we could pin this down.

Hey Stephen:
I've got the latest edition (3rd) and you've got the latest intel as well. I checked articles archives and the research hasn't been done when the break occurred.
But May is a good break point considering 78 production went into July. What's your VIN? This could be fun!
