Default Borlas Arrived Today-Comment on Import to Canada

These are the #40352 units that Slickman has. I picked them up on Ebay for $87.95US from a firm in Oklahoma. Shipped brand new in Borla original packing. The total with US Mail Air Parcel Post to Canada was $122.20US each, insured. Delivery was about nine days. Pretty good! But two comments.

One. These darn things even look loud! They are a straight-through design with steel wool and fiberglass packing. If they are not to my liking, is there a restrictor plate of some type that can be inserted to tone them down? The Borla warranty document speaks of "venturies" being available if the buyer is displeased with the sound but I do not know what these are.

Two. For my Canadian colleagues. Insist on shipping by US Mail!! Stay away from UPS and FedEx with their ridiculous brokerage fees; basically a bar code scan at the border. I have attached a file showing the Canada Customs Import Form. Simply put:
-product cost was $87.95 (each muffler) x 2; converted to $CDN at 1.5596 or $274.33CDN.
-Goods and Services Tax (GST) was $19.20CDN
-compared to the brokerage fees, I paid Canada Post a handling fee of $5.00CDN.
-my import cost was $24.20CDN
-FedEX or UPS runs about 24% or in this example ~$66.00CDN. And they impose that surchage on the shipping costs as well!

So just a tip that I have stated before but here is the documentation. Rant finished.

Paul, I have a similar set of Edelbrock mufflers (straight through pipe with fiberglass packing with one pipe offset and one centered), and they aren't that loud at all. If you still have your cat in place, I think you will like them. They are nowhere near as loud as the Flowmasters on my '79.

Paul: I have the same Borlas. I think you will like them alot. I bought them based upon SLICKMANS advice and do not regret it at all.

I love the sound; it is just right for me. :)

Thanks Joe. I will certainly give them a try. And yes I am still 2-1-2 with a high-flow cat con. I had to smile at the Borla warranty: they sure do cover the bases. And their you know whats.

"Because sound is subjective, please do not return the system if you do not like the sound level. There are several ways to adjust the sound level. You can obtain venturies, for example, from your retailer that you can place in your system to quiet your system (sic)."

Interesting! They must have had complaints about noise levels.

Thanks! I love the V8 Corvette sound. Just do not wish to give Police an excuse to pull me over everytime I go for a Sunday afternoon drive.

I had similar Borlas (except stainless) on my street rod. With a 10:1 406 and true 2 1/2" duals they were loud, but not headache loud. You could hear me a mile away when I got on it. Joe

Paul: Take my word for it - they are not that loud! A mile away; he must be kidding.

They do make some noise; but the sound is quite nice and I personally think you are gonna like it. The entire idea of performance mufflers is to sound like something other than stock and that is what Borla is all about.

Put them on! Mark

Thanks Mark. They certainly will go on in April after this miserable cold (-10F) and snow goes away. I like a mellow V8 sound. I believe it is the FlowMaster 40s noise that I wish to stay away from. And I like to hear myself think at 60mph.
