a fellow forum member offered me to part the car out and sell it in parts....
This sounds interesting but I wonder how I could get more money for the 80 Duntov..

Sometimes the hassle of selling in parts is not worth the effort. What if you start to part her out and find no buyers for what's left? The car has many unique parts which while more valuable, may be less saleable.
What was the amount you were looking to sell her for on Ebay a while back? Thought it was around $16K. If that's the case, $14k from insurance, $2k from Ebay (or more) and the car gets a potential shot at a new life, you get what you wanted (though not the way you wanted) in the end.
I think parting it out will be a pain, even if being done by someone else.

I'd have to agree that parting it out may be more lucrative, but there's always those parts that nobody wants. We had a 77 body with no nose sitting in the back yard for two years. We finally had to give it to a guy with a small salvage yard. But the rolling chassis was worth a few bucks and I made sure that the side pipes found a good home (see sig pic ;) ).
I'd say sell it as is. She's got a better chance of making a recovery that way. :hurray:

I've been away from the computer a few days. Is the car beyond repair? I saw the pictures and I'm still amazed that no one was hurt. In response to your question on parting the car out, I'd really hate to see that happen since it's so unique. As the saying goes, the parts are aways worth more than the whole. Did you ever tell the history of the car? (You probably did and I missed it!) Still a shame to see a wrecked Corvette. As always, good luck! :cheers:

Olivier,
Was very sorry to see that. Stuff like that really bums me out.
My suggestion would be to send it off to a good home as-is. Parting would be a pain and in the end you would probably be looking at some piece of it for a long time. I wouldn't want to see it for long. I'd be cryin' in my Corona.

Wow - just saw the pics. :eek:
I agree with others above that it's worth more $$ as parts, but easier to sell whole.

Wouldn't you think it would be worth more to sell it as a whole since it is unique, or almost?

For example:
Engine: $500
Transmission $200
Seats: $500+++ (perfect condition)
Convertible top frame + top (excellent condition): $500++++
Dash + gauges $500++++
A/C Compressor + setup (blows cold) $500+++++
Cruise Control parts $300+
Pedals etc... $200
Steering Column: $200
Steering Wheel $80+ (very nice condition)
Radiator (very good condition) $200
Rear End assembly (excellent) $300++++
Halfshafts $50
Driveshaft $50
Spare tire carrier + spare tire: $100+
Just those major components alone are worth over $4k.... (used value)
