Melvin, the R terminal connects to the ignition switch, and the S terminal connects to the coil. The coil is normally supplied ~10 volts, but this S terminal wire supplies it with the full 12 volts during cranking.

I can check the colors for you tonight, if nobody else answers before then.

Lets see, I just removed the wires from my starter...the thinnest wire was on the tiny lug to the fender side of the starter and the slightly larger purple wire was to the small lug on the block side of the starter. Of course, the large battery + wire goes to the big lug and the ground to the ground screw.

Hope I got you wired correctly.

John,
The Purple wire goes to the "S" terminal from the "Neutral safety switch"
The Red wire goes to the "B" terminal with the #2 black cable from battery.
The yellow wire goes to the "R" terminal from/to the "+ ign coil".

You guys have it backwards up there in your posts (Flareside):
The "S" terminal attaches to the "Switch." This is the wire coming from your ignition switch -the one that goes "hot" when you turn the key to the "start" position. Easy to remember because the "S" terminal goes to "switch" for "start."

The "R" terminal bypasses the "resistance" circuit of the ignition coil. Wire to the "R" terminal goes to the "+" side of the coil. This supplies full battery voltage to the "+" side of the coil whenever voltage is applied to the "S" terminal from the switch. "R" is easy to remember because it bypasses "resistor wire."

On a car with the color coded wires intact, the purple wire goes to "S."

Oops, thanks Lars. I guess I better go check my wiring again! Last time I looked at it, *I think* it was wired as I described...
