Newbie Question
I just came home with my first Vette this past weekend. I bought a 1972 Steel Cities Gray convertiable. Drove all the way from Atlanta to North Detroit to pick it up (what a haul). We pulled it all the way home on a flatbed.
Anyway my question is I only have lap belts in the car and was wanting to know if you can put shoulder belts in the car if it did not come with shoulder belts originally? Where is the best place to get them and maybe a place detailing how to do it? Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Newbie Question (TMCADAMS)
I've never been inside a '72 so I don't know where they would mount. In my '73 (coupe though) they mount on the wheel well. One place to buy seat belts is:

But undoubtedly there are several other sources. BTW - congtas on your new car...sounds like a beauty!

Congrats on you new ride...Steel Cities is my favorite color!! If your vert was not optioned with shoulder belts, and you are concerned with originality, then you have lots to do my friend. Shoulder belts bolt to the top of the rear wheel well. I'll bet the mounting holes are there under the carpet. A plastic cover mounts to the rear quarter trim panel that covers the belt retractor. The belt then gets threaded through a seat bezel on the left side of each seat. If your car is not equiped with all this stuff (the retractor cover, and the front and rear seat bezel) it's all available through the vendors. Shoulder harnesses are another story. You will pay dearly for them if you want the original function and look. I did notice a set on ebay for around $300.00
Now...if originality doesn't mean anything to you...later model Camaro rear belt/shoulder units work well in our C-3's. A bit of fabrication is required to make them fit...but they function better than original. I got mine for less than $75.00. Let me know via email if you want the vendors web address. It's at home....I'm at work now! Good Luck

Congrates on the Vette. I also brought mine down from the rust belt,(Cleveland) and it shows. But it was a good deal.

Re: Newbie Question (page62)
Installing the shoulder belts will take some work. I have them in mine (stock) and do not use them. My theory - after years of being on a motorcycle with NO protection, the lap belt alone is an improvement, especially since I drive it like grandma most of the time.
Since the car is not a daily driver, risk is minimized, and as I explained to my mom, the car is fiberglass. a shoulder belt will be of little value if I were to be creamed by, lets say, a Ford F350.

Re: Newbie Question (Robert N)
One of the (admittedly minor) reasons I ended up with a '79 was the really nice seatbelts!
Remember, the body may be fiberglass, but the car sits on a sturdy steel frame. And there's another reason I'm driving a Vette and not a Miata -- to an F350, the Vette looks a lot less like roadkill than a Miata!
