I had HEI in my 74 when I got it....but no tach...I removed it and put a mallory dual point distributor with tach drive for 180 bucks thru summit...No change in performance at all and the tach works....You could change your tach out and use HEI but that would probably be more work and cash

Installation is fairly simple, the harder question is what are you going to drive your tach with? You'll have to either swap your tach to electronic or run a tach drive HEI ($) or simply convert your points distributor to electronic with a conversion kit.

You won't see any improvement if the distributor you have is working correctly. If it isn't, you might want to have it rebuilt by Lars. Excellent work and with a recurve kit you will feel a great improvement. The HEI will work but you won't have a tach any more. You could switch the tach to electric or just use an after market.
The power wire to the coil would have to be replaced because it is a resistor wire and for HEI you will need a full 12 volts.
