Think I damaged my clutch or linkage. Need help to diagnose
Just put in a line lock. Made the mistake of doing a DRY burnout, without wetting the wheels first. smelled clutch. Clutch used to chatter quite a bit (I guess not indexed properly) seems to chatter less now.
symptons: Now the clutch pedal free play is totally gone. The pedal is harder to push in. Clutch seems to work OK though. I looked thru the lakewood and as far as I can see the fork is OK. Adj ball OK also. Clutch is CF dual friction.
Need ideas on how to diagnose..
Thanx Chris :flag

My first suggestion is to double check the bellcrank and it's mounts. Is the ball tight on the engine block? Is the nut tight on the stud on the frame. I think that is the first step. There really isn't a reason why the clutch disk or pp would change. Also, how are the engine mounts? Check the driver's side one in particular.

is any of the linkage bent? is the pivot bar still in the frame bracket?

I am not sure exactly which part each of you is talking about.
where is the BellCrank and mounts? Ball on frame?
where is pivot bar on frame bracket, Is it pedal assembly?
If you have any reference to a manual that would be great. I have many manuals...
Thanx Chris

Re: Think I damaged my clutch or linkage. Need help to diagnose (Clink69)
the bell-crank (aka pivot bar, cross-shaft, Z bar) is a rocker shaft that translates the motion from the clutch pedal to the release fork. it runs perpendicular to the driveline axis, located by two ball studs underneath the brake m/c. one ball is mounted solid on the engine block, the other is fastened to the frame sorta behind the left front wheel. this ball stub is retained by a washer with a tab that fits into a slot. if this side comes loose from the bracket, the cross shaft may still pivot, but the left end of the shaft will deflect and severly reduce the release arm's range of motion.

Sure thing. I'm sorry I didn't get to your e-mail sooner but it looks like Turbo-Jet has it covered. Let us know what you find.

Never noticed the 'ball stud spring' before, I am missing it. Wonder if there should be another on the other side?

Re: Think I damaged my clutch or linkage. Need help to diagnose (burners)
I think my problem might be in the push rod or pedal assym. I see there is NO tension on the firewall spring but the pedal is very hard to push. I will disconnect the push rod from the Z bar (like that name) and see if I am correct.

ps: that diagram is mis-labelled, the lower 'cross-shaft' is duped; should be 'nylon seat bushing', 2 pcs...

Yes, check the bracket to see that it still holds the cross shaft.
If it doesn't hope that the bracket is still good... You can buy the
early (weld on frame version) but you can't buy the later model
bracket that screws on the frame.
That's the brack I'm searching for.

That's odd. I'm running a centerforce dual friction clutch and couldn't be happier. Great peddle feel and has made it through the first season of drag racing with flying colors.
