To the drag racers... anyone running a shift light?
I was looking at putting a column based Autometer Pro-comp 3 3/4 tach with mini quick shift lite & RPM module(plug in chips for different RPM's) and decided to give this thing a shot instead. The Proform 67005C shift light appears to have merit as no tach is needed like most of the 5" Monster tachs you see these days with shift lights. It allows you to dial in RPM's from 3000-11000 on the back in 200 increments. Plus, I can run my original tach drive and not have a load of trash on my steering column.
Here's a link... down at the bottom... "Adjustable RPM Shift Light"
http://www.proformparts.com/catalog/tachometers.html
Anyone tried this yet?

Corvzvette69....
Those that chose to shift by sound or by constantly watching a tach get trailered early as there is no consistancy to it and it takes your vision off of things that are better focused on while going down the 1/4 mile. This is the least of *toys* that is available that is legal at every event at the strip. A monkey could drive some of the *Super* class cars with delay boxes, throttle stops, rev limiters, stutter boxes(illegal at most), air shifters, etc. Hold on to the wheel, stomp the gas and go from A to B(1/4 mile) consistently within a tenth of second every time. That's not racing.

The man has a very valid point.
I have a shift light along witha 5 inch monster tach next to a 5 inch monster speedometer. "it looks good to me".When you get going and get all excited, sometimes you forget to listen to your engine to see if's she's tapping out yet. thats where a shift light does come in handy, It's ultra bright light is made that way so you don't have to take your eyes off the road, you just get blinded "not really" for a second and the only way to shut that damm light off is to slam the poopieer as fast as you can.
perhaps instead of a shift light they should have a shocker you attach to your self heheheh

ok hold on a sec.. I was just answering your question.. then you go off about all the cheater things involved in the sport? i race for fun not a living or to make money off it. I have a really loud exhaust on my car, ask any of the guys from NE that have seen it. and as i said I've had my car the same for a long time that i dont have to take my eyes off the track for very long, when i feel the 4bbls open up, i glance down and see 5 grand show up on the tach then i shift and back on the road.
I know my car, i race by heart; not by technology <write that down>

I bought a 5" tach with a shift light attached.....Couldn't find anywhere to put that monster...I was fortunate enough the speed shop took it back and allowed me to purchase a Auto Meter Shift light with a set of pills.....It's mounted on the column....simple to installation....easy to see all the stock gauges....and you insert the pill for your best shift point.....when the light flashes, you shift....very simple, and it does not clutter up the already tight confines of the cockpit. There's a cap that goes over it to subdue the flash at night so it does not affect your night vision, and you remove in the day time to over come the daylight.....It's the best and most accurate gauge of my engines true RPM. The pills come in 200 RPM increments. I have the pill pack 3000 to 5800 RPM.....I use the 5800 RPM pill when racing and the 3000 RPM pill for cruising. :seeya Cappy

IMO - the Proform's suck, you get what you pay for. We sell alot, but also get alot of returns, just this past month we had one guy return 3, eventually went with the AutoMeter shift light.

I have the Proform Shift Lite and it works fine.. I never used it on the strip.. because the fuse didn't have good contact last time at the track...
Right now - the fuse has contact again... So - next time I'm going to use it...

I have an autometer shift light in my car. Didnt like using it so i disconnected it. I always shift by checking the tach. I run 12.7 at the corvettechallenge and I finished forth in the points this year.
You can be consistant without one. Just ask anyone that has raced me :D

Re: To the drag racers... anyone running a shift light? (QuickVet)
I run just a shift light wit hthe factory tach. The tach drive is to jumpy and when shifting it bounces to much. I never look at the tach after launching. When the shift light comes on I shift. I have been much more consistant after the light was installed. If you have a tach up high enough in your line of sight you would be OK. If you have to look down at the dash you lose sight of the track. Can't argue with Quickvet though he cleaned up at the challenge this year.

That technology is fine if you don't have any real power but if you had the power you would loose the engine the first time out.
I have a remote shift light and I want to shift by 7000 so I had to set the shift light at 6200 and still hit 7500 before the shift was complete.
I ended up going with a MSD-6AL rev limiter set at 7000. I still try to shift at 6200 and bump into the rev limiter everytime.

I run a pillar mounted MSD shift light for safety reasons. Running NOS without a rev limiter alerts me to traction problems and possible over revs.

I have thought about a shift light because I am wildly inconsistent.... and then after a run I can't even remember where I shifted 3 times! plus my helmet really restricts my hearing so I can't hear the engine anyway, especially the 1-2 shift because there is always a loud car in front of me ( ) making a bunch of noise!!! :) MJ
