1980 - L82 vs L48 Intake Manifold
Is the stock aluminum L82 intake manifold any better than the stock L48 Manifold and if so, for what reasons. Thanks!

Re: 1980 - L82 vs L48 Intake Manifold (LABulldog)
LABulldog,
The 1980 L-48 used the same aluminum intake manifold that the L-82 used. In the years immediately before 1980, the L-48 had used a cast iron manifold.
The 1980 intake manifold casting # was 14014432 for all L-82, L-48, and LG4 motors.

Re: 1980 - L82 vs L48 Intake Manifold (Paul Borowski)
The reason for the question is that there is an '80 L82 manifold currently on ebay and was considering bidding on it if it would help me out (hp, etc.) Obviously, from the responses, only an aftermarket manifold would do me any good. Thanks for the replys!

The L-82 aluminum put out identicle RWHP as the edelbrock performer I installed hoping to make more hp.

Re: 1980 - L82 vs L48 Intake Manifold (LABulldog)
The only improvement I saw with the Edelbrock Performer EGR (#3701)manifold over my old, tired L48 aluminum intake manifold, was that it was new, all of the threads were new and it didn't leak radiator fluid from all of those pin-size holes in the aluminum caused by corrosion over the last 20 years. Granted a few dabs of marine-tex sealed the holes but it was unsightly to say the least and the OEM manifold was painted blue (same color as the engine). I prefer the aluminum look myself.
