Default Mileage Range?

I'm getting 125-130 miles per tank with the new engine. Still haven't pulled the tank down to figure out why I'm only able to add 11 or 12 gallons at Empty though.

Is this normal?? Sure seems like a short distance to have to add fuel! Now, even at 10MPG, I would still be able to go 175 miles or so if the darn tank held the 17 gallons it's supposed to! :smash:

What is the range of miles you guys get with stroker motors?  :nopity

I can usually only put in about 12 to 14 gallons myself. When I look into the tank it looks like maybe 2 gallons left. I usually get about 120 miles to the tank and have squeezed out 160 driving like a normal person should. Don't think you are to far off

I crank out 275 miles per tank, full to empty by the guage. I believe the tanka a 24 gallon capacity tank, including the reserve. Check for physical damage,or maybe the fuel level pick up is out of wack.

If I take it easy on the hwy (60 - 70) I avg about 18 mpg, this is with the new engine rebuild that MM designed. With my old engine I avg 11 - 13 mpg on hwy. No need for the EFI upgrade with his design, @ 490 hp and good mileage I definately have no complaints.

about 220 miles/tank primarily city driving with the large tank in the 78 - I can put as much as 20 in the tank. Can get more on the freeway if I dont try to keep up with all the SUV driving mario andretti's on the road. 85-90 in a 3.70:1 - 4 speed car consumes gas at a prodigious rate.

I've heard the rubber bladders in the tank can shrink with time, I think this is the case with mine, it only holds 11-12 gallons.

I go 300 miles between refills and the gauge is just above the empty line. Usually takes about 18-19 gallons to fill it back up. :steering:

First road trip last weekend 240+ miles 18.1 mpg, new ZZ4 with TH400 and 3.08 rearend. I went on another roadtrip today, but I haven't filled the car up yet, but the trip was 130 miles roundtrip and I drove the car to work 2 time 40 miles each trip and the gauge still shows 1/4 tank.

With my L46, I would get 22+ mpg at 70mph cruise and go an easy 350 miles to the tank, 18 gallons. My 79 had a 24 gallon tank if I remember right, but I couldn't go any further since it only got about 16-17mpg at the same speed or slower.

Have I said before how much I hated the 55mph speed limit? I have forgiven Nixon for Watergate; but, I will never ever forgive him for the 55 speed limit!! :mad

hey greg i got a question on hp on a 383. i also have one in my 73- i got stock heads(with2.02 intakes) comp is 10.5 to 1 stock ram horns -chambered exhaust- 750 holly elderbrock intake 488 lift cam-- thats about all i know of how the motor was built-- the reason i ask is i was told i also have 490 hp- i was also told but some other stroker builders that when you do this to a 350 ci motor its a instant 490 hp- the reason i ask is i was told by the neighborhood auto shop that thats way overrated and with my set up it more realistic to say 375 hp and to get that hp you would need more extensive engine work that i now have-- i understand to get the true eengine hp i would have to pull the motor and dyno it- just wanted a ballpark-carl

I asked the same question a while back. As someone said there is a rubber (polyst. something or another) bladder in the interior of the tank. After a while they start to collapse and that limits the amount of gas you can get in your tank. For example in my '77 I can only get about 10 gallons in. That is one of my feature 'plans'.

Tim M.

P.S. The replacement tanks do not have the bladder.

hi carl: with stock heads and the stock manifold I would be surprised with achieving the 490 figure even a low 400, no flame intended just what I learned from hours of discussions with MountainMotor. He designed my motor from the ground up, the only component that I reused was the original 4 bolt block which was machined, aligned, honed, magnafluxed etc. With all of the work he did on getting me the components, porting, polishing, matching etc. the guy truely is a wonder and marvel, whom I hold in highest regard. I have never heard the claim that all strokers are essentially 490 hp engines with any stock components remaining, other than the water pump or machined block. You are right that if you want a base for output than getting your engine dyno'd will do it, but as has been outlined on this forum on many different occassions, dyno's should really be used for base #'s only and those do not necessarily act as a great indicator of track performance, far too many other variables. As an example, I ran the 1/4 for the first time this fall, first 2 runs were terrible, couldn't hook up at all, 3rd run had a better launch still spun, spun going into 2nd and 3rd, but after all this I ended up with a 12.46 @ 116.2 on my 245/15 T/A's. not great time but I had fun and could still drive her home. I am now looking at making my suspension better, not sure if I will run many more 1/4's until I fully check out my rear end.
