Default Interior Redo .. cost?

I want to redo my interior. I have a 72 Stingray with the original tired plastic and pleather interior. I need a new dash or dash cover. The paint has chipped off my console. I guess I am looking at carpet, dash, and a way to refurbish the console, and new seats covers. The door panels are OK. I want to change from tan to black. Any good guesses what this is going to cost? Has any one ever changed the color of their interior and used the same parts...(dyed old parts new color)? I am thinking around $1200 bucks?

Input would be great.

Huzker,

I am doing a refresh of my interior as we speak. Depending on how crazy you go your price assesment might be right. As far as advice on changing the colors there are lots of threads on this. Go to the search feature and search on different variations of 'interior dye'. You will find pretty much everything you need. This includes cleaning / prepping, types of paints, etc...

Good luck.

The new dash is expensive costing aproximately $400 for the 77. The lower dash pads can be died and come out pretty well with the exception that the dye wants to peel where the mounting screws put pressure on the pad. If this is not acceptable count on $300 - 350 each.

I think a new center console cost me less than $100.

I think carpet cost me around $200.

The complete original leather seat package with foam cost around $500.

So you are looking at between $1000 and $1000 depending on what you need. This of course does not include any labor. I did all but the seats myself. The driver's seat was slightly out of kilter due to 25 years of driving and I elected to pay someone $200 to straighten and repair the frame as well as recover.

Tan to black shouldn't be a problem though I wouldn't try to go the other way.

Bob

When you take it apart you can expect to hit those costly "while I'm at it's". I started out to replace the switches on my power windows and this was my final order from Corvette America. All of the part numbers are for a 71 and the 30 at the end of the numbers is the code for red. The prices are a year old. Pick and choose for your shopping list, then look for a package deal.

My interior was not dyed when I got the car, IT WAS PAINTED! That's why I ended up replacing almost everything. If you do good prep, you'll have no problem dying your stuff black.

Good luck,
Dave

When I redid my '72 convertible some 7 years ago or so, the windshield area had allready been redone, so it was sound...but they did not do the interior panels..on header or A pillar....my dash was 'OK'....only cracked but not tooooo badly....now i'ts a POS...and need redo...still thinking on that one...
so I redid the header, pillar caps?, door panels, new ebrake console shell..the hard plastic one between seats, seat covers( comfort weave vinyl..need redo again), and of course new rugs...so that left the original dash components, and that plastic shell sround the shifter console plate....
the metal plates are easy...clean and paint, scrape chome off with razor...

I did n't bother with dye, as it's not so good, wears off easily...sorry, but that's reality....leather MAY be better died, but not sure....

the cost for me at the time was about 1500 bux....oh,...no sun visors...
bought all from Al Knoch interiors....do a search....car show prices too boot...

PIA to do is the seat covers....frankly, doint with electrical tie wraps is better than hog rings....easier to adjust as you want....
door panels are expensive for just a hunk of plastic...
