Melling M-77 BB oil pump spring????
I bought a brand new Melling M-77 oil pump for my 454. In the box is a spring which states to use to "repair original equipment H/P corvette oil pumps #3876868 & #3904826..use the enclosed BLUE spring".  I'm guessing that I don't need this spring as I don't have an old pump. :D
Now if you had one of the above mentioned pumps, why would you need to buy a new pump just to get the spring???

I have that same M77HV in my 427. I never changed anything. Hell I didn't get an extra spring with mine. It's a good pump and I'm pleased the pressure ect. :seeya

The M-77 is the stock replacement pump. The M-77HV is the high volume model.
The stock pump comes with a stouter spring in the box to increase oil pressure to the level of the HP factory pumps. These pumps work great with the stouter spring, especially in cases where you don't have huge pan. The HV's move alot of oil and need a high capacity pan if you turn many rpm's.
The HV already comes with a HP spring, so you don't need to replace it. The stock pups give you the option. Best to use it!
