Default Help! My garage is filling up with numbers matching parts...

Now I know why Paul79 keeps his car numbers matching! Every corner of my garage has something that I'm "supposed" to store for posterity or whatever.

First it was the carburetor.
And then a TH350 tranny had to be stored under the workbench.
Not to mention the ugly plastic ignition wire shield.
Now there's a spare tire and carrier in the storeroom.

At this rate, my wife is gonna kill me! Why oh why did I buy a numbers-matching car?

Keep saving all those parts!! Eventually you will have upgraded/replaced every part of your car. Then you simply reassemble all of your carefully saved parts and presto!!! You will have 2 corvettes! MJ

Boy, can I relate. Let's see - M-22 tranny, Muncie shifter, stock Holley carb, seats, radio, distributer, transitor ignition, 3.70 rear end, steering wheel, exhaust manifolds, etc, etc, etc. All "just in case" someone wants to restore this puppy some day. If it wasn't an LT-1, I might be tempted to clean house. ARGHHHH - Sorry guys. That was just a fleeting thought. I really wouldn't. I promise.

Nice to know that someone out there is listening to my "stock" hypotheses ;) . BTW that ugly ignition shield is GM-discontinued and N/A in Corvette catalogues. I only have two. Want to send yours to me.... ;)

That was my idea in the beginning. I even bought a engine stand to keep the old engine.

I am way past the point of no return and have given up on the noble idea of ever returning to stock. Modding it is just too much fun. :)

I'm beginning to think you're a packrat, Paul. ;)

But in Texas we don't have basements, so storing stuff is a royal pain!

I think hanging onto the original parts is a good idea too.
Mine is mostly stock and anything that comes off of it stays in the garage.

There's another positive point to all of this; who knows, eventually you may have enough original parts in the garage to put together and build "another" Corvette

I'm beginning to think you're a packrat, Paul. ;)
I'm a NEAT packrat-I've built treated lumber shelves for my "original" Corvette tires, wheels on one side of my "house" garage, then on the other side another 18ft long three tiered shelf full of carbs, distributors, coils, new plug wires, plugs, air filters, PCV valves, valve covers, air cleaners, coresupports, bumpers, exhaust manifolds, etc., etc., etc., :D

It was suggested by co-workers I take up coin collecting-takes less space-is it even fun, though???

Yes I am. Soon I will have a big "original" sale on Ebay ;) . Actually I started to clean up the basement last weekend and there is not much left. Aside from the Western Cyclone II mags that I wish I could find a good home for.
