Carb solenoid question
What the hell does this do? When I bought my car the wire was just a burned mess. Now that I'm replacing the harness I need to know what to do with the wire. Thanks.

Re: Carb solenoid question (Teuffelhunde)
I believe the solenoid you are referring to is an idle adjustment. You would set the idle speed on the solenoid plunger and when the ignition was turned off the solenoid would release, causing the throttle plates to fully close to prevent dieseling (run-on). They were used in many early emission controlled engines.

They were also used on some cars to keep the idle up when the A/C compressor kicked on. On my 69, the service manual says you set the idle with the solenoid.
