need a new battery
[sarcasm]well, i thought that leaving my old battery on the manual charger and forgetting about it for 4 days would be a good thing, but it turns out that it wasn't. [/sarcasm]
what should i look for in a new battery (cranking amps, name brand, etc...)

You are in a much colder climate than I am and cold cranking amps may be more important than here, but buying batteries is an interesting game. First there is no real advantage to buying one with a mega warantee. If you figure out the pricing game that the battery companies play, you will find that about 36 mounth is the break point where you reach the point of no return. So if you use any warantee after that point, you could buy a new one cheaper. Also mega output batterys with the mega warantees are more suceptable to plate shorting and instant failure. I have had much more failures with these than with the cheaper batterys, at least inside the 36 month window. Then it boils down to this. Buy one that has enough cranking power to do the job, but get it as cheep as possible because anything over 36 months is gravy. The figure that counts is cost per month.

SizzleChest,
I just went with ACDelco replacement in my 1980. No particular reason, I usually use GM/ACDelco parts if available.

I would buy the cheapest 60 month battery you can find. The reason is, (I make these for a living), The only difference between a delco, sears, interstate and wal-mart, is the case. I make all four of those, so I know what goes in them. As a added note, my 6 year delco battery in my pickup, now has 7 years on it. :seeya
(I would go with the optima, if they would give us a employee discount, but they won't :cry )

Re: need a new battery (8T1-7T9 BIONIC VETTE)
I concur. Optima is the way to go. I have researched these extensively and will probably install the deep-cycle (marine battery) as I do not run the car that often.

I have a 9 year old Optima in my CJ7. I never did get a wet cell battery to last more than 6 to 9 months in the jeep...
Does this tell you what you should get?
Nothing but Optimas for me anymore...

I agree with most of the others. Get an Optima. Chevrolet put them in all new Vettes, don't they?. I bought one for mine at $315 Australian, about US$170, last year and so far have no reason to regret it. If you think that's dear, try pricing Corvette parts on the other side of the world.

Re: need a new battery (SizzleChest)
I've never found anything like an optima battery. a buddy of mine used to drive his '70 4Runner around on the starter using just battery power and never even came close to killing his Optimamax battery. Spend the extra bucks and get the best. Plus you've never gotta worry about it leaking.

Re: need a new battery (SizzleChest)
well, i bought a $210 red-top and the damn thing was bone dry. i put it on the charger, charged it up and 5 minutes later it had lost 4 volts. i'm taking it back and buying a $75 delco and pocketing the rest of the cash.
