Default After changing the differential fluid yesterday....

I drove the car a little bit today... (15 miles).. Unfortunately - I still get some vibration at sharp turns... :( :(

I will drive the car to work tomorrow as a extended test drive.. I hope that it will get better.. otherwise - I will have to get the rear end replaced or rebuilt..

Did you do some figure 8's in a parking lot after changing the fluid and adding the posi additive?
That helps.

I cannot do this around town.. There are no empty parking lots in Miami Beach.. and my 68 would trigger all car alarms.... Therefore - I would have to drive out of town in order to do 8's....

Figure 8's help get the lubing in the posi clutches.
Hopefully that;s your problem.

When I did mine, I took the car out and started making hard lefts and rights, as I could not do the figure eights either. Weaving through parking lot lanes may do the trick too.

I dunno, vibration sounds a bit more serious to me than posi fluid, though.

Hopefully his vibration is posi chatter which sharp turns or figure 's may help.

If you cant make it to the Orange Bowl parking lot...
do you have any quiet residential neighborhoods? I also suffer from a lack of empty parking lots, but I will just go to a quiet intersection and do some counterclockwise loops, then turn around and do some clockwise loops.... same effect! :) MJ

I took the 68' to work today and did some 8's at the company parking lot (which was empty 7:30 AM). I noticed some improvement after doing the 8's.. but there is still a small clonk...
If it won't be gone by the weekend - I will have to have my rear end rebuilt... Will see...

Last time I did that, I was in search of a parking lot to heat cycle my track tires. Well I did it at the mall and got stopped by the police. Made me get out of the car, searched me, asked me if I was on drugs!!!

Did you ultimately put some posi lube in there Olivier? If not, try it! $6.99 is a lot cheaper than rebuilding...

oliver,
about four years ago i started hearing this rubbing noise in drive thrus at first. i thought it was a caliper sticking so i change all of them with ss calipers and line. darn sound was still there. i then change the rear end fluid with the gm posi stuff and i did the 8's for about ten minutes and then several 360's. after that the noise was much less and after about a week it was gone.
the car now stops on a dime and will do 360's without the front left or right tire moving at all. :smash:
good luck,
mike

Put in the addituve, it'll let the clutches slip some and the rattling and clunking may very well go away after a few miles.

Ecklers and others.
GM Dealer parts dept
Auto part stores carry a different brand posi fluid.
Some say it's the same as GM....some say it's different.

Unless you used synthetic fluid you need the posi additive.
