I don't know if you ever saw my '78 Oliver, but I spin and hit a wall at 40 MPH.
Took a frame straightening session,Front and rear bumper and some fiberglass work with matching paint on repaired areas it was $6400. Yours looks as bad with a trailing arm damaged and a rim, is the wide body fender still available? I'd say if the fender is available your looking $7000-8000 with just painting the repairs. So I doubt they'll total it if the went that deep on my plain 'ol '78.

Well - I wonder what is going to happen if the wheel and the fiberglass are not available anymore...

That's where the biggest trouble would be is getting a fender to match or making a new one by hand. The rim might be a hard one to match too, might just have to get a whole different set.
I hope it turns out well for you.

I'm the 15-19 guy. I was in an accident 4 years ago in the 70. Damage looks worse on the Duntov and mine came to near $12000. You have a lot of specialized pieces there so I am going to guess around $16000. When do you get the estimate?

ACI still makes those panels. http://www.acivette.com/index2.html It'd be a very nice buildup car for someone with some skills. It can probably be done for a few thousands if the frame is straight. Only problem would be that wheel, but there's a Duntov Turbo here in the Netherlands with the same rims (it's got black interior with wooden boards on the doors that say turbo)... think he would miss one rim? ;) :D Also, if the rim center is still straight a good custom wheel shop could probably fab some new rims.

We had a '70 BB in a body shop locally that I helped on that was hit hard in the same area. It was $3800.00 to install a one piece rear clip (Eckler's if memory serves), and then the guy had the whole car painted. With all the suspension bits and pieces it was $9800.- out the door. With a car as unique as yours, I would absolutely fix it. Barrett-Jackson has one listed (no reserve) in their guide for the auction this month in AZ. See what it goes for and then decide.

Different wheels would reduce the value of the car and would be unacceptable for a car that rare...

The adjuster is going to look at the car tomorrow morning... He will probably have the numbers shortly after...

I'd stick to my guns and make sure they do it right, and with the right pieces. And to do that, will be some major dollars, so hopefully "IMO" they total it and hand you a VERY VERY large check!! :yesnod:

Maybe this poll should be,

How much do you think the insurance company will offer me?

First offer:
$8500.00

Then it's a :boxing match!

Good luck, I wish you the best!

I'm thinking this will run into the $17-17.5K range. If it were a regular Corvette , probably in the $12K range.

It will be extra for the rear fender and especially the rear wheel :yesnod:

I wish you the best of luck with the adjuster tomorrow.

:iagree:

Olivier...I know you are worrying like crazy about this. It's hard to put oneself in your place. I would be worried sick, even with insurance.
You know what my suggestion is...take the check...build a ZL-1...and drop in into your other car. I think you will quickly forget the wrecked one when you are smoking the tires with that ZL-1.

Hang in there pal...it will get better.

I just got off the phone with the guy from the bodyshop.. He doesn't have the exact numbers but he said that it will be in the neighbourhoud of 10k... So - let's wait for the exact number.. (They didn't consider the damaged dash).. I called them and told them about the dash..

I didn't vote in you poll because its just too hard trying to estimate damage by looking a pictures. As rare as your Duntov is, even if they do total it, buy it back and get it fixed. I know you are "garage challenged" but just rent one of those storage rooms if you have to. I would also check the Barrett-Jackson auction and see how much they get for the Duntov mentioned above. That may go a long way in helping you make your decision. Good luck and don't let the insurance :reddevil man bite.
