700R4: Selector Shaft Seal Installation
I received my new Selector Shaft and Seal. The old seal was installed with 'metal side' out. The seal was packaged on the shaft with the metal side in (rubber side showing). My guess is that this is the correct installation to ensure the maximum metal-to-metal contact between the case and seal.
Please advise.
Following photo shows the old shaft/seal orientation on left and new shaft/seal on right. As you can see, the shaft on left (old) has the seal installed with the curved metal side 'out' while the shaft on right (new and shiny!) has the seal installed with the curved metal side 'in':

As with any seal, look at the rubber lip.It should tapper toward the inside of the trans[oil side].It looks to me that the seal on the left is correct.

You should be able to order a Selector Shaft Seal for under $1 from Bow Tie Overdrives (www.700r4.com).

Bow-Tie says the metal side should face out (same as on old selector shaft).

I called the local Chevy dealer today and said he'd have them in his hands tomorrow. Thanks
