Be Cool or Griffin
Any preferences one over the other? The only difference I have found is that there is no epoxy in the Be Cool construction which might aid repairability. Love to hear your thoughts. It will be cooloing a 600+ horse 502. Thanks, Bill.

We use these in circle track cars ... no epoxy, no gaskets, 2 rows of 1"core, billet neck ... as good or better than griffin ... $170. 917347-31 is the size for a C3 ... it's a universal fit like the $190-$200 griffin

I went with the Griffen from Dewitts ... Cools great with my dual Spalls... even on the hottest days it's nooooo sweat....

thats funny this post came up as i was just looking at my speedway book yesterday and did not know what radiator to use
jackson when you say "universal fit" is that with an auto or do i need to buy a trans cooler? and just how much farication will need to be done to get this in my 76?
i drove it to dallas this past weekend and had to limp home

I am using a BeCool #60029 with my L88. Supposed to be good to 1000 horse power, $491 through Summit 3 years ago. I am making about 550+ at the flywheel, 483hp @ rear wheels. The radiator with the Spal fans does a fabulous job. 200-205F in city rush hour traffic on 100+ degree days. Not my normal commute car, but nice to know I could!

I'm using a griffin in my 76 stingray. It's not a universal design so it costs quite a bit more (~$450 thru summitt if I recall correctly ... purchased 3 yrs ago). Fits great, uses stock hoses & mounts, and cools wonderful. I'm using it with the stock fan and shroud, stock pulleys and a low drag aluminum Moroso waterpump on a ZZ4 with GM's Hotcam. No problems to date even with a few removals for engine mods :D.

I'm using the bcool rad. in my 68, 4 speed. It dropped right in and fit like a charm in my stock radiatot support and shroud.

Those $170-$210 2-row Al universal rads DO NOT have a trans cooler. For auto trans, you'll need a stand-alone cooler like/similar below. UNLESS you TOW big load on long trip in hot weather ... it'll be fine when used with stand-alone TC. Keep in mind some universal Al rads (ie Griffin) use epoxy ... impedes any future repair. Others (ie speedway & summit house brand ... both made by Northern) do not use epoxy.
Fab is minimal. Need a vise, a drill motor, bits, pliers & hammer ... and some 1/8"-3/16" aluminum or mild steel. You'll also need universal-type radiator hoses ... the ones that look like accordian ... any parts store has em. Otherwise ... if you want direct-fit Aluminum, you can spend hundreds more.

I got a Griffin Aluminum Direct fit and it is exactly that.... direct fit, no modifications. I can't remember what I paid for it but I think it was around $450 from Zip (I think, man it sucks getting old). I love it and when I lived it Texas during the summer my temp never got above 200, even sitting at a stoplight.

I have the Griffin with 1 1/4 inch rows and it cools great!!! They say that it's good for 750 HP...

I plan on going with the complete Be Cool setup, it has their electric fans, aluminum radiator, over flow tank, wire harness, and other install items, it's $1,000 for the manual trans, and $1,100 for the auto trans (comes with trans cooler). I believe they are good for 1,000 hp. The have no exopy like the Griffen radiatiors do either. I believe just the Be Cool radiator is about $500.

The owner of "Be Cool" drives a nice 57 with dual air horns on the injection unit and has his own radiator in it. He knows Vettes. :thumbs:

69ttop502, Just my 2 cents worth, but here goes, BeCools are made here in Bay City Michigan, I have been to the factory where they are made and know many of the men and women that make them. It is the best product out there and looks way cool. I like the fact that they don't use epoxy in them like the Griffins, if you need to have one of those repaired good luck. In my car, which is a 71 coupe, my 467 motor puts out some serious HP and also heat, my temp has never gone above 200 even after hard runs! I also am running twin Spals. As someone else said the owner of BeCool, Roger Rosebush knows high performance cars very well, I am proud to have him as a friend. You can always spend less for something and you sure have many choices as far as radiators go, but for my money its an easy choice. BeCool!

Thanks for the replies everyone. Jackson, that sounds like a good idea, but I don't really trust my fabrication skills all that much. I will look into it though.

Jackson: How deep is the Speedway PN 917347-31? I want to compare with my stock radiator. Also is this the same as Summit SUM-380331 Alum. Rad. for 180 bucks.

I am running a Be Cool 2 row radiator. I am only running a stock clutch fan with NO fan shroud and the radiator keeps the temperature of my 500 horsepower 468 to around 180-190. I am 100% satisfied with it.

Jackson - Thanks for your info. What I meant by "deep" is how thick? For example 1" or 2". Trying to determine if will fit in stock brackets.
