New EFI 454 - Head/Cam Advice
I posted first to engine mods, but only got one response. I've seen people post on C3 General about this, so I'm going to as well in the hope of getting a few more responses...
*********************************
I'm half-way thru the build of the 454 going into my 75... It has an ACCEL Superram DFI unit. I've purchased SRP small dome pistons (+18cc dome). Compression will be somewheres around 10:1 or 11:1. I've been looking around at heads and cams and would like some feedback. I want a steet engine w/ a good amount of get-up-and-go. I would like to be able to take it up to 5,500, but thats it. I'd also like to manage around 500-550hp at the flywheel. Car will have a manual 6 speed and probably 3.08 rear.
HEADS
I did a search in the archives, but it seemed most people were looking for heads for a 500 or bigger motor. Mine is a 454, 0.030+... I would like to use aluminum for some weight savings. I'm considering the Edelbrock Performer-O (either 110cc or 100cc chamber). I'm told oval port is the way to go for a lower RPM street engine....
CAM
I want a roller cam. I've been looking at the Crane Cams HR-288-2S-12-IG
Int/Exhst @.050 = 226/234, Lift Int/Exhst 0.587/0.610, 112° separation
I read somewhere that over 230° duration is bad for an EFI unit as it messes w/ the MAP sensor, so I know I can't go wild...
That's my story... Anyone offer some comments, hints, wisdom, I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: New EFI 454 - Head/Cam Advice (75 BBC Stingray)
I'm using Edelbrock Performance RPM Oval ports on my 454 LS6. I have same company's EFI on top of motor and it made 541.2hp/552.4tq at flywheel on the dyno.

Re: New EFI 454 - Head/Cam Advice (groovyjay)
Thanks for the reply. How does my cam choice and yours compare? How' your idle characteristics? I see the cam I was looking at is not that far from what is being talked about is the neighboring thread http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=465403
except the Crane cams has more lift. At least I know I'm somewhere in the ballpark. :D

Well that's easy... Sounds like you are building something very close to the 454 in my '71.
The cam I'm running is a custom ground comp cams. The lobes are #3110 and #3112. 224/230 duration, 573/585 lift, 114 LSA, 4 dgr advanced. It is a hydraulic roller.
Heads are Edelbrock Roval ports. About 9.3:1 CR, but that is because I was too lazy to switch the factory flat tops. Could easily go to 10:1 or slightly higher without detonation. My power peak is at 5300 rpm. Pleanty of torque (550 ft-lbs).
Idles smooth, and drives like a stocker until you hit the throttle.
