Did you buy from an owner or enthusiast?
Just curious of those that bought from a private owner if you bought from a vette enthusiast or someone who just owned it? I personally bought from an enthusiast, I think it was his 8th or 9th vette, probably a good thing since I didn't know near as much as I do now when I got it, and fortunately everything was exactly as he said it was. Plus he gave me a huge stack of vette mags to go with it and a spare aluminum ralley. I think he was sad to let it go, but he knew it was getting a good home :D What about everyone else?

Re: Did you buy from an owner or enthusiast? (73 LS-4)
Complete idiot :yesnod: . First off he told me the the motor needed a new cam and lifters, it didn't NEED either, as soon as I pulled the valve cover I saw that the rocker arm was just loose  . Over course, I got a case of "while I'm in there" (see my sig). It also needed new brakes, so theretically the car could have been in driveable condition for $5,500, since the cost of the car was $4,700. I could tell he didn't know much about the car, but atleast he kept it garaged all time.

I bought the '74 from a Corvette specialty dealer. I believe the previous owner had that and a mid-year, and one had to go for some reason.
I bought the wife's '94 from a female who sold it because her two daughters were always fighting about who got to ride with Mom in the 'vette.

My previous owner liked Corvettes (wanted to get a ZR-1 someday) but just had too many other toys (RV, boat, etc) and just didn't have time to enjoy this one. His little daughter was very sad when he told her it was going and he wasn't saving it for her. Which means, she'll probably be buying a black 77 one day. ;)

Bought from a private owner. He was asking 10k. We offered him 8k and he really began to whine :cry . We setteled on $8500. Ive probably dumped another 5k in engine, drivetrain, and suspension mods since getting the car. Its a different car than when we got it. Its much better now. :yesnod: :D

Got my C3 from an enthusiast/restorer. Still see him, in fact, he stores mine in the winter with about 50 other 'vettes and classics. :yesnod:

I don't know about the guy I bought it from but I did not hear from him for three days after I closed the deal and he finally phoned and told me he almost called the deal off because his girlfriend was crying about losing the car, she was the Vette enthusiast !

The guy who owned my Vette was a semi-enthusiast. He liked Vettes, owned 4 in succession but didn't seem to know a lot about them.

I bought my car from a guy who (between his wife and himself) drove it 1,000 miles a year for the last 10 years...it had 40,000 miles on it when I bought it. He had several corvette books and had just hte previous year installed factory side pipes. I'd say he rates as an enthusiast since he was in Washington and basically didn't want to take it out in the rain (which happens about every day).

I guess I bought from an enthusiast. He had a dozen cars, couple mid year survivors, a 69 tri carb and numerous others.
He is a NCRS member and National Judge, a member of Solid Axle Club, Classic Chevy Club International, Bow-tie International and Pontiac Oakland Club International.
Said he was moving and did not "in his lifetime, have time for another".

Got both mine from dealers. Got the '72 from Pro Team and the '98 from a Toyota dealer who was worried he would be stuck with it all winter. I eliminated that worry :)

I suppose my 80 was owned by an "enthusiast". I remember when i went to look at it he was babbling on and on about all the options on it, how many were produced that year with the same options, all the other c3s he owned (6), and all the shows he goes to.
However....he didnt seem to notice that the right rear tire was flat, the air filter was BLACK from dirt, the steering linkage had at least an inch of slop in it (the right tie rod end literally fell apart when i removed it), the rear end was leaking from the cover, the door bushing was actually shattered on the passanger door, you know i could just go on and on....
All in all, i wouldnt really trust any "enthusiast". The nicest c3 i know has been owned for all its life by a mechanic who admits that he dosnt even like corvettes.

I dont have a vette right now but my last one was an 82' and the owner wa more of a performance freak than a vettehead, he had done extenssive modifications to the car, like a 94' engine and 6speed, offset trailing arms, 295's in the rear and 265 in front, along with some other stuff. The car was in good condition and he only sold it because of a divorce. Lucky me and made some good $$$ when I sold it, but now I regret it :cry

I found my ride in the recycler, the guy wanted 5,000 bucks. I gave him 4,000 cash and he delivered it and filled up the tank for me :smash:
the car has been in there family from the day it roaled out of the factory. He wasnt a vette guy but has a little knolage of what was going on and loving vettes sence i could speak i knew a little myself so it all worked out. It was his dads then his dad gave it to him. He just couldnt keep it anymore besause he had another car and needed the money to pay off the other one.
I spent my entire savings on that car and i wouldnt take it back for anything in this world im only 18 and to have a C3 its one of my dreams come true so im really happy with the car only needed some TLC and it gets that from me.
Time for some engine mods

I bought my 68' from a guy that has a company that makes pavements/driveways etc...
He also had a climate controlled 7 car garage.. He had 3 old Chevelles, 2 old Corvettes and 2 regular cars... His favorites were actually the Chevelles.. He restored them and later sold them.. He was also working on a "all original" 69 with a 427/435 HP engine... He actually got the Custom 68 (now my 68) as a trade for making a pavement.. The car was sitting in his garage for many years because it was custom - and he never got a chance to restore here because he was busy with his other cars that were "all original". He made some extra money fixing up those cars.. and he didn't expect to be able to make too much with the custom 68 Vert if he would have fixed her up.. so he put the car in the Autotrader.... and I was the first to call :D

I bought my 72 from a first time vette owner who had spend five years restoring it. He told me it needed nothing and I have since spent 10K on it! :)
