454 engine swap
I know this has been discussed in the past, but exactly what changes and parts will I need to swap in a 454 into my 72 Corvette. My corvette has a 76 hood the car was originally a 350 4 -speed but now is a 87 305 (1-piece rear main) and a TH350 auto. car has PS and factory A/C both of which I need to retain. I am on a very small budget but have acess to a good 454 long w/ no accessories or intake also will my s/b radiator be sufficient. :D

Very small budget and Big Block are rarely put in the same sentence.
You will need brackets for starters, $$$, and MAY get by with your stock radiator but I doubted.
Pretty costly, but OH the fun!

If he already has the motor, it shouldn't be that expensive. I bought the power steering bracket and the alternator bracket from a forum member for I think it was $150.00. I've been told you can buy them for about the same in a lot of places. I got the short water pump off ebay for 15 bucks. I dont know if you can use the same motor mounts or not, i did on my camaro swap a few years ago but even if not they're not expensive. A set of iron exaust manifolds aren't that expensive either, and there's always headers. the pulleys can be had on Ebay for $50.00. i have a gigantic aftermarket aluminum radiator that I got for 190.00. you'll need a new shroud and hood, I'm told. I guess it all depends on what you mean by small budget. Your not gonna do it for a couple of hundred bucks but I'll bet you could get it done for less than a thousand with some shopping around.

You can do a search for these members to see what we spent our money on: bence13-33, 467-Ratman, Bob Turner, Steve Straus and myself. Bence detailed all his expenses in one of his posts.
454 exhaust manifolds are expensive. Price them in the vendor catalogs. Some vendors are charging $369 a side! shop them on Ebay and those guys want even more. You can check, but Corvette BB headers are model and sometimes year specific. Headers are a less expensive alternative, but you get what you pay for there too.
If you have an engine that's in good shape and running already, your're ahead of the game.
Bigger is better. :D
