Just received one awesome Birthday present
I was 60 years old yesterday. My wife and two grown sons just gave me a very big surprise.
They said I was not over the hill yet, but I was getting close. They had better give me this present while I still had some skills left.
I have wanted to do this for the last few years.
Attend the Richard Petty Driving Experience at Talladega Super Speedway.
It consist of in class training and on board training, and then I can drive a NASCAR 600+h.p. eight laps around the high banks of Talladega Speedway.
Awesome, I can't wait.

Congrats and Happy Birthday!
Will you consider making the trip a photojournal exercise as well for the rest of us? I sure would like to see some pictures of the "present."

bamavettes.... that's definitely cool!!!!
One of the people I work with went to DisneyWorld in Florida this last summer and paid to drive one of the BUSCH cars on the 1 mile Walt Disney World Speedway oval. He had a blast and is going to Texas Motor Speedway this year where they allow 150+. Thinking they limited him to 135MPH at Disney.
It was interesting hearing how they worked it with kill switches in each car. They had to follow a professional driver around the track and they would shut your engine down if you ever attempted to shift. And if you were getting out of the groove they would put a red light on the track to warn you. Do it too many times and they would shut you off. If the professional driver saw you had a hang of it he would continually work up to the top speed and wave you around so he would follow you. Thinking it was $350 and a 2 day jaunt is available for those who are serious. Lots more money too. I think it would be worth everyone's time to do it once.
I'll probably be at Texas Motor Speedway with my friend when he goes. :yesnod:

The instruction information said bring friends, family, and fans, and camera with plenty of film. Said they could follow and stay with you most of the day.
It ,also, said that at the end of the day one of your group could ride at top speed around the track with the instructor. Must be 14 yrs old.
They asked me what I wanted last week and I said about all I need are some new black dress socks.

Woody, I did this at Disney Speedway back in 97, I can still remember the thrill of 125 in a Nascar replica. I know this will be one great adventure
