Clicking sound...
Well, I just had the vette up at a mechanic for about a month and a half. He totally went over the car, major tune up, fixed all the problems, it got a new cam because the old one was fubar. I was amazed when I got the car back, it was totally different, the power difference was HUGE. So, anyhow...
I got the car back thursday. I haven't been ragging it or anything, I've opened her up a few times, for friends, a chevelle or two... And tonight, my girlfriend and I went out for a ride before I took her home, and I began to notice a faint clicking sound, that was in sync with the engine RPM. Clicking sound gets louder. I make my way home trying to be gentle on the car, I come to a stop to cross a road, the engine dies, starts up after giving it some gas... I get my girlfriend to her house, car dies twice in her drive way, I do manage to get it going, and I make my way home. The clicking has gotten progressively louder, the idle is rough now. I'm not sure what's going on, and I'm afraid to think about it to be honest.
Basically, I just want to know what you guys think, any input at all would be seriously appreciated.
It's an 82 Corvette by the way.

Re: Clicking sound... (Vh82vette)
Ummm, sounds like either; rocker lost adjustment, pushrod bent, or cam lobe wiped.
From your description, I'd almost bet on the last :cry
Contact your mechanic, he might want to pick it up vs having you drive it in.
good luck,
Todd

my initial thoughts would be rockers - then perhaps timing chain.
are the plugs wires arching? does the oil pressure fluctuate prior to engine quiting? if the motor revs are up, does the clicking increase as well?

Re: Clicking sound... (Rooster)
Yes, the clicking sound goes with the revs, I didn't notice the oil pressure changing when the car died, I'll check that tomorrow though.

How about, new cam old distributer drive gear...If they don't mesh like the old cam did, then you distributer gear will be toast...could be why its stalling...

Had a bad valve guide make this noise once but it still ran ok as the cam was still opening and closing correctly. This sounds like a valve is not opening correctly causing the rough idle (but to cause it to die it would seem to have to be more than one!)
Perhaps timing slipped and you're hearing a knock?

Thanks for all the response, I'll keep all of the comments in mind. I've already sent an email to my mechanic, explaining the problem to the best of my ability.
