Default March BB pulley sets?

Anyone using March pulley's on their BB? The set I'm considering is under-driven. I don't had PS or AC so this is #7510. the crank pulley is 5 1/2 inches. I already have the alternator bracket.

I'm using their serpentine conversion with multi groove pulleys.

Hi Len,

There's one particular thing that I don't like about that system. It only uses one belt, and that can sometimes cause belt slippage and that annoying squeal. Most of the stock big blocks, even if they didn't have A/C or P/S, used a second short belt that ran between the water pump and pulley. Melvin posted a thread about this a week or two ago, so it may be worth a look.

It may or may not be an issue for you, but at least you're aware of it. Maybe the aluminum pulleys get better "traction" and work better?

Len, I'm using that exact set and their alternator bracket too. Make sure you get the billet aluminum alternator blade. You'd look like a total hick if you spent that much on pulleys but used the stock blade. My only regret is not going serpentine, but since I'm only driving a water pump and and alternater I didn't think it was that big of a deal.

Len,

I am running the underdriven serpintine system, I really like everything about it, except the cost. I thik it was $200.00 :U

I have had no charging / cooling issues with it.

You will like it Len, especially the way it looks.

Thanks for the input Rat guys. :D I think I'm gonna try to spring for them. Thanks for the pics Steve.

Joe---may be I need the MCH-7530, which is a two groove crank, 2 groove water pump & 1 groove alternator. You wouldn't happen to have belt numbers would ya? I'm thinking they'd be listed as one alt belt & one water pump?

I might have what your looking for along the lines of the alternator, but I think the last time we talked, you were looking for a high amp. Mine is the single groove with a billet cover, and the billet fan blade setup. The chrome alternator is I think is standard amperage. I'd sell it for like $80 + shipping,
even if ya don't need the alternator, you can always keep the fan/cover and sell the rest.

Yeah Mike I agree with you there. This started out almost a year ago as a budget rebuild. All I wanted was a 400HP BB.  Then I got the fever.

Keith, I IM'd you.

There is truth to the squeal part of the story, I know I have the same set. The alt. bracket has to much flex to it, especially on a BB, it needs another bracket off the rear, just my 2 cents!

Len, I don't have the part number, but I do remember that I got both belts from ZIP. When I called, they knew exactly what I was looking for. Corvette Central also lists it in their catalog as the "water pump belt".

Your underdrive pulleys may not work with the stock belts, because they achieve the underdrive by changing the pulley diameters. Maybe March can supply you with the correct belts?

They do look nice! Are you going with the stock accessory brackets? :)

Oh, I forgot about them being underdriven. That makes sense that the belts wouldn't fit. Yeah I'm pretty sure March has a part number.

Accessory brackets??? I don't have any accessories! Just an AM/FM radio. Bubba even disconnected the heater core.

It's the alternator fan listed there.

Len, I don`t have the BB version, but I am using their small block set. The only problem I have had was with the alternator pulley. Somehow the lockwasher ate into the pulley the first time I drove the vette. This allowed the fan to make a helluva racket. When I got the car home I pulled the cover on the alt. pulley and found the shavings where the lockwasher had ate into the pulley. To fix I got me a big flat washer to fit over the end of the alt pulley. I put the lockwasher and nut back on and since then no more problems. If I had it to do again and know what I know now, I would have put this flat washer under the lock to begin with. I think that they should include this in the kit.

   Great response Bionic.

Len--the '72 assembly manual shows the extra belt between the crank and the water pump in every configuration. The double is probably a good idea.
