Fender Well Exit exhaust?
 Did anyone make fenderwell exit headers for c3s? And what exactly are they? (do you connect mufflers on them or leave them uncorked?) I saw a set on ebay for mopars...and that caused my mind to think about them for a second...:D

Wow! You want something that you don't even know what it is?
There are some cars that require fenderwell headers due to the lack of clearance in the chassis for traditional undercar headers. You'll see this in a lot of early Mopars with B and RB engines because of the torsion bar suspension. You'll also see this in the gen 1 Nova because of the tight engine bay and some makes for the shoebox Chevys with a big block.
Fenderwell headers merge the tubes and route them through the fenderwell behind the front tire. The installation, as you would imagine, requires quite a bit of surgery to the fender panel for the header tubes to pass through. It is not the hot setup and represents a compromise. There are no fenderwell headers for cars that have adequate clearance for undercar headers. The traditional way an exhaust is hooked up is that you have an exhaust system tap at the collector dump tube. It's not a smooth flow path. The collector has a cap that is thumb-screwed onto the end so that when you're on the street, your system is capped and the flow backs up and takes the path of least resistance, although with substantial turbulance.
Some custom fenderwell headers use a bent dump tube that is well integrated into a street exhaust.
It would go without debate that there are no fenderwell headers for Corvettes or would there be a need for any. Sidepipes are not fenderwell headers in any way you would contemplate them.

Re: Fender Well Exit exhaust? (gerry72)
What's the point of capping it, can't you run them open? Would the exhaust dump the gases back or out the side? Thanks!
