AC upgrade - where to buy Sanden compressor?
I want to do an A/C upgrade this winter on my 81 to a Sanden compressor but haven't been able to find them anywhere on the web. Anyone know where you can get these compressors and mounts? Do they require different hoses or will the stock ones work?

Yep. Call 407-323-7804, The Corvette Clinic and talk to Stacy. They sell a complete kit that will eliminate those extra runs for parts during the middle of the project. It's a popular upgrade for C-3's. They can also tell you what you will and won't need for your year Corvette.
Tell them Spike sent you.

There are a couple of businesses I know of that sell them. Go to a search engine and search for Hot Rod Air or Vintage Air. I know Hot Rod Air sells Sanden compressors, mounts and adapters for C-3 systems, but I think their prices are high. There is a webpage that isn't associated with any one business that has some useful links to other resellers. http://www.aircondition.com You should be able to find something there.
I'd give you links to Hot Rod Air and Vintage Air, but they aren't supporting vendors so I prevented by forum rules to post direct links to them.

:iagree:
Ask them for a flyer on the AC kits - instructions included with kit. Also ask about solutions to other C3 problems they offer.

No, they're not a supporting vendor ... I've been buying from them for 25+ years ... one of largest AC/ rad wholesalers in southeast. You must have a state resale license /tax ID number in order to do business ... easily ;)produced. Prices from their catalog, but AC comp prices may be a bit cheaper while its winter ... call em & see. Can't help you w/ bracketry-hoses.

My OEM AC system never worked, so I have no comparison there. I'm also using a vintage airs compac gen2 system, so there's nothing left of the stock set up. :steering:

The Sanden compressor is reportedly more reliable, and consumes less HP than the A6 or R4. If I was doing it again, I'd do a Sanden retrofit! :yesnod:

I'm using a Vintage Air w/ Sanden compressor in my 68 Camaro. I'm pretty happy with it with the exception of the fact that the bracket that came with the compressor is a total piece of crap. It's already getting surface rust, and this is in AZ!. Get a March bracket to mount it, you won't be sorry.
