What are 882 heads worth?
I bought these heads with 50 miles on them (rebuilt triple angle valve job)and no longer need them (bought 400 long block). What could I sell them for?

I have a set. When I finally get them off of my Camaro and replace them with a decent set of heads I'm going to shoot them with my 8mm Mauser.

Your best price is going to be on ebay. You're hoping for a buyer who has no idea that these are nearly worthless heads. In other words -a sucker. If they are genuine Corvette heads that were installed on a Corvette out of the factory, you might be able to sell them, again on ebay, to someone who is going for a restoration and the date codes are within range of their project. I'd hope for a group of suckers in a bidding war.

If you decide to sell, let me know, I'll probably take them. For truck heads, they are pretty good. However, I sold a set of 882s that I rebuilt, new guides, seals, valves, springs, retainers, etc. for $140, so the price should be low on these things.
Take care,

If you want, you can use the heads on your 400 by drilling the steam holes. Joe

Why are these heads so bad? I also have them on my 400. They came on the rebuilt engine (400) and I haven't installed the motor yet. I am now concerned the motor won't work very well. :cry

The easiest way to check if yours is the crack prone dual heat riser head is to
look down the exhaust cross over port at the intake manifold
surface. If you can see only 1 exhaust valve, it's probably going to work just fine. If you can see 2 exhaust valves one on each side inside the port Then I'd chuck em. I have a cracked one on my Camaro right now. As soon as I get things wrapped up on the current project with the Vette I'm going to get a good set of GM heads for the Camaro.
Didn't mean to make you feel bad about your rebuild, I've just had really bad luck with 882 heads. I'm sure there are folks out there that have had these heads last a long time. I guess it just depends on what you're going to do with them.
