Default Valve cover gaskets, What are the best out there.

I need to change my valve cover gaskets and was wondering what are the best gaskets any of you folks have used in the past? Cork, rubber or neopream? I don't know how to find old posts on this subject.

I'm using the blue vulcanized rubber gaskets from Moroso (I think they are from Moroso?). These babies are reusable which makes them very user friendly. I have had the need to remove my valve covers so many times...sometimes just to get to another part or make room for working on the engine. They cost a little more up front but are worth every penny in the long run.

Gaskets were not used in 1979. Use Permatex 2 and you will not be disappointed.

Paul, I've heard of using only permatex, but how do you do it? won't it run out from under the cover or do you lat it set up for a while?

The 1979 factory manual does not recommend gaskets on the intake manifold ends or valve covers. Of course GM has its own product but Permatex is a fine alternative. My valve covers have never leaked. You can get a bit of squish-out but after running up to operating temp and leaving sit for 24 hours it can be nicely trimmed with an X-Acto knife. The trick is to allow the excess to be external. If internal it can plug oil return passages.

I agree with Frankenvette on the Blue Moroso Gaskets. I tried everything on mine and now have the Moroso. Like he said you pay more but THEY WORK!!!

Earls Performance gasket # 29E03B is what I used. They are rubber with steel core and have metal grommets surrounding the bolt holes to prevent over torque. A little more expensive but leaks will be gone.
