Default Non-Supporting Vendor links

Judging from some of the comments I’ve read in a thread in this section with a similar title, I’d encourage each of you to review the “new” user agreement, rather than jumping to conclusions about what it means and the practical impact on the Forum and your participation.

In my view, there has been no significant change in the user agreement as regards the promotion or marketing of non-supporting vendors on the Forum. So, if you haven’t had a problem with the way things have been handled in the past, you’re probably not going to see any significant changes now.

Here’s the exact wording from the user agreement:

No spamming or commercial solicitation of any kind by members. Any such messages can be removed at the discretion of either a forum moderator or administrator.

Selling of individual items is permissible by a private owner in our Classifieds forums, however selling multiple items of the same product is considered a commercial post and may be removed at the discretion of moderators and/or staff.

Commercial solicitations and links may be posted in the forum they most apply to as long as the company is a supporting vendor at corvetteforum.com. Messages promoting a commercial entity that is not a supporting vendor of corvetteforum may be deleted at any time at the discretion of corvetteforum moderators and administrators. Occasional posts helping a fellow member to find a commercial vendor that has what he needs may be allowed. If these posts are viewed by moderators or administrators to be commercial promotion (by a vendor, affiliated party, or un-affiliated party) they may be deleted. This decision is based on many criteria and may differ based on the actual moderator or administrator that makes the judgment call. These posts may be deleted solely at the discretion of corvetteforum moderators and administrators.

You can review the entire user agreement by going to this link:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forumhelp/agreement.htm

Actually some similar concerns were raised in this section about the Forum’s position on non-supporting vendors a couple of months ago, and Troy Roberts made a post trying to put things in perspective:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=419824

One of our goals as moderators is to protect supporting vendors from the frequent, blatant and/or repeated incursion of non-supporting vendors who would use the Forum to get your attention at the expense of supporting vendors.

At the same time, we realize that must be balanced against the need for Forum members to exchange information with fellow members on the quality and availability of parts and services.

We will continue to allow negative reports to be posted concerning supporting vendors so long as a good-faith effort has been made to resolve the problem off-line and the post is factual and to-the-point, rather than a vendor-bashing rant.

We’ll also continue to allow the mention of non-supporting vendors Forum members have done business with.

That won’t be a problem unless those mentions of non-supporting vendors become so frequent and so specific (url links, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, exact prices, etc.) that the mentions become “advertising” rather than “helpful advice.”

The Forum’s moderators are volunteers and we aren’t perfect. We try to be consistent and strike a balance that will be fair to members and vendors. If you have suggestions on how we can do things better, feel free to let us know via e-mail or IMs.

Sounds reasonable to me, Why did we have to wait 3 pages to get this information straightend out?

I will continue to support your advertisers as much as possible. I just think the Title of Supporting Vendor was a bit to heavy IMHO.

Anyway, Thank You for onece again making this the best Forum on the Net. JIM :seeya

I stopped reading the other post after it went to page 2.

So, thanks for an 'official' explanation - and a link to the user agreement.
I looked everywhere for that thing in the C3 layout, but couldn't find it.

I think that it would be nice to know the vendors that have declined an
invitation to support the CF website. "Boycotted Vendors"
If I knew that a vendor had been invited for obvious reasons, and turned that
opportunity down, I would think twice - three - four times about buying from
them. Alas, the old addage applies here: "No publicity is bad publicity."

I guess I missed all the controversy about the Steeroids group purchase.

This is really quite fair when you consider what we have, and what we receive in free information from each other. Plus vendors who come here and get business for free yet only spread discord should be limited.

I think it works for me. But I'm not much good with leagaleze, contracts, rules, laws, limits and orders.

Sounds like you'll please most of the members and still have the authority to drop the hammer on blatant violators. :smash:

Jim,
Thanks for the input and clarification. I think that it's important for everyone to understand that we all do our best to make the Corvette Forum what it is. We're not perfect, but we're reasonable people who want CF to continue to be the excellent resource and community that it has developed into over the past (almost) 4 years.
