Houston weather permits us to have year-round activities, but winter (if you can call it that) is generally the slowest period of the year.

Re: HOW IS YOU CLUB? (Paul 75 L82)
There is a local club where I live, but I am not into scripted events. A few of us in the Greater Toronto Area will get together throughout the spring/summer/fall. Some are into the BBQ thing and others are not and just into the driving/racing thing but that doesn't stop us all from getting together from time to time. We decided over 1 year ago that if we called ourselves a club, we would all quit anyway as then there would be a responsibility to buy hats, t-shirts, coats, wear underwear and have a regimented approach to vettedom. For many of us our jobs and family life provide enough scripted regimen.

UNfortunately in the ten years of vette ownership this time around...I have witnessed the extremes of club activities......apparently....
In the Wash d.c. area...the Corvette clubs...of which I belonged to just two...G'burg vettes, and NCCC #1 club...first vette club ever formed...in '1956...the Corvette Club of America.....which is in Gaithersburg Md....last I knew anyway....it is NOT that money making 'enterprise' 'club' in Bowling Green...who BTW stole the name....
at any rate CCOA NCCC#1 is about 80 members strong, with shop nites in a local dealership...Chriswell Chevrolet... in Garithersburg Md....and they used to have meets there once a month on 3rd-4th?? Tuesday...from 6-9 pm every month.....dinner afterwards at locak pizza place...NOT expensive....
they had use of the dealership once a year for in house vette shows...widely advertised...TONS of people showed up each year...paying maybe 3-5 bux admission to see 75 or so vettes INSIDE the showroom, service lanes, work bays, body shop.... NEW vettes lined the perimeter of the show room....
club members manned the gates....we all had shirts of the new year's color...
club had parties...especially holidays....cruises....
but just being able to get INSIDE and use the LIFTS in wintertime for 3 hours once a MONTH...wash your cars...do minor maintancnce...and such....
even Exhaust work....valves...whatever....had to vacate and clean up of course by closing time...well no sh it....sherlock.....
one or two dealer vette mechanics on hand to lend advice...as well as parts/performance department open.....
now that was for about 5 years up in Wash d.c....
NOW...down in Jacksonville Florida....NO DEALER COOPERATION on ANYTHING is available...unless situation just changed very recently...
just cruises to expensive restaurants twice a month and a couple of outdoor shows per year....
as in NO tech support, NO lifts available....NO parts discounts I know of anyway....
so you right there can compare clubs....
OH BTW the Wash d.c. club had/has dues same rate as here in Jax Fl....go figger....
AND a MUCH fatter club treasury too....

I don't have the time to commit to a club and their activities, but the local
club here is big. Gate City Corvette Club - Nashua NH. They have a big vette
show each year at the Budweiser brewery, and the monthly meetings are
held at Dobles Chevrolet in Manchester. This looks to be a club that is for
people who want to be in a club. In order to join, you must attend a minimum
number of club events, witnessed and signed off by a club official.
Too much for me - at least with kids and a job.
I want to get a local group together - like the Toronto shark pack. No dues -
no mandatory attendance - just a group of folks that want to hang out with
their vettes (and others) once in a while. Maybe plan to attend a car show
once in a while .... but be fun.
Luckily, this can wait until springtime to start.

Re: HOW IS YOU CLUB? (silver79)
I had a friend who came from D.D.O.! (That's Dollard des Ormeaux for all you who are wondering.) But I'd better not mention his name in case the Surete is looking for him :D
The Corvette club here in San Antonio is extremely active. Monthly meetings, several events per month -- a vast quantity of things to choose from. Plus there's an annual car show that raises gobs of money for a local "Kid's Ranch." I'm always amazed at the stamina of the folks who do every single event!
The only downside is the club is heavily C5-oriented. So there aren't many gearheads to meet and discuss C3-specific stuff. I'm not complaining because it is a very good club. This is just something I miss...
There's a local restaurant that has a huge classic car meet every Friday night, all year round. Anywhere from dozens to hundreds of cars show up every week!
Regardless of all this activity, I'd still like to do something like the Toronto Shark Pack does. Just informal get-togethers where C3 folks mingle and shoot the breeze over a cold longneck  I have the time and the place. Now all I need are some warm bodies -- but I guess I'm not much of an organizer :D

I was a member of two Corvette club the last few years.
I'm going with one club now.Probably as a absentee member.
What I've seen happening over the last few years is club members are not using or selling the older vettes for C-5's.
Many club activities are now geared toward newer vettes.

Re: HOW IS YOU CLUB? (69er)
The one we have put together here in Arizona is fun....
A.C.E.
Arizona Corvette enthusiasts.
What someone did was get all the people here on he CF (all generations) and form an e-mail list, then we have wrench days and other get togethers. all we have to do is send out an email and a few members are sure to show up. (for fun try to break something while your at a gathering).
You guys might want to try doing something like this for you area / state.
Just send me any royalties for this idea...

We have a local club called Carolina C3'ers that is great. No dues, meetings, memberships, etc.; just fun outings and get-togethers. It is informal with local cruises at least once a month and was formed because of the same problems with traditional clubs mentioned above. We have C5 guys that join us sometimes as well for dyno days, drags, cruise-ins, etc. It is run by Chris81 on this forum and just about all of the members mod and drive their cars! Here is the club website: http://www.c3vettes.com/index.html

Re: HOW IS YOU CLUB? (silver79)
Our club is prety good. Ft. Thomas Corvette Club (www.nkyvette.com).
I was the treasurer last year and had to give it up for other time commitments. A lot of the activities are geared toward the C5, but we try to have shorter distance cruise events for the older vettes like mine. The oldest one in our club is a 1954 and the newest one is a 50th anniversary convertable.
We have monthly meetings and try to get a cruise or show once a month in warmer weather.

I'm not a member of a club anymore. The club I was in last really sucked. I was a founder of that club and they treated me like dirt. The only cool dude in there is the chairman, the rest are backstabbing lizards.
The club itself & the members was pretty nice, give or take a few. After all the hard work I did for that club (website, tech articles, general articles, photo's,... and on and on) and fixing (well almost completely rebuilding) one dude's car I'm left w/ damaged/broken parts, parts they "borrowed" from me and don't want to return them or where you loan stuff only to get 1/2 of it back and you have to buy the missing half in the Us and pay for the tax, shipping & handling.... I could go on and on and on, also about some website designs and programming code (and pictures) one of them stole from me (they're probably making money out of that stuff) Just a big old mess I'm happy to be out of.
No more clubs for me!
