Ordered the 385 Fastburn crate and the hot cam kit as well! Wahooo! 430hp!
A freind and I ordered the Fastburn 385 crate engines yesterday! We both bought one! And we decided to both get the Hot Cam and 1.6 roller rockers that make the 385 into a zz-430! Mine is going into a 4spd 71 and he is putting his in a 75 auto- they will arrive next Fri! And then we have to do the cam and rocker swap! I'll post pictures! As you can tell I'm very excited!

I purchased this same combo last year. I am doing a body off on a 1969 coupe so I have not had the pleasure using it yet. I ran the cam off before I set the body back on the frame and it sounds mean! I borrowed a Holley 750 to run the cam off but have not decided what carb to use. I am stuck betweeen a 650 and 750 Demon.
I took some extra time and painted the block orange.
When you run the car, let me know how it turns out...I am sure that you will get this done before me. Are you going to Dyno the car?

Lots of hot C-3's are gonna be roaming the streets/strips soon. Where did you buy the engine?

Burt Greenwald.
I was just thinking of some of the problems I had. I think you will need to change the water pump to a short throat. I bought a Aluminium one from GM. Short throat pumps don't fit on the new plastic timing chain cover without some custom hardware. Puttin the timing chain cover back on right requires that you pull the oil pan...I tried really hard and got mine back on without doing this. I just pushed down really really hard.
You will most likely need taller valve covers for the 1.6 rockers. I purchased spacers from GM so I could use my orignal aluminium covers.
The valve springs and retainers are the same on the FB 385 as the ones that come in the HOT cam kits, so you don't need to swap these out (Double check to ensure this has not chaged recently)
Since my Tach is mechanical I am have the HEI distributer cross drill so I dont have to change the tach. I think converted tachs don't look correct...they are not bouncy.

Scoggin Dickie Chev. has some of the ZZ430 750 Holley Carbs designed for this combo. I hope to order one for my 385 w/ 1:6 rockers soon. JIM

I think you have to put it on another website, my girfriend handles all that stuff for me, if you want I can get her to IM back and forth and explain it!

Make sure you take the Distributor Gear off of the Crate HEI and put it on the other dist. It takes a special dist gear for the roller cam. Good Luck with it I think you will really like it. It is also a lot less headache this way. JIM

:iagree
What he said :D
You will be so glad you stepped over the "keeping it original line"........These cars had no guts.
It's up to us Tim Allen types to make the C-3's leave tire marks on the asphalt of history...... :seeya Cappy

Yes I bought the 71 last summer, it is all original except for sidepipes,
has 52000 miles! but the motor is weak compared to the 70 and I wanted to
keep it from blowing up since it is a #s matching, so I decided to pull it, put it in the garage, and put in this 430 hp crate engine! Thats the story! Besides my girlfriend likes driving the 70 automatic so I thought I would get a 4spd-
