O/T: does anyone NOT like the magna styer "53-c5"?
seems lately that the retro styled c-5 by magna styer has been getting rave reviews in the mags. maybe i'm just the only one who thinks the style is off the mark. i think i've seen something about that car in at least the last 4 issues of both 'vette' and 'corvette fever'.
just my two cents but it really doesn't work for me. it's not so bad as a convertible but the latest one, a z06, just looks all wrong. my biggest complaint about the car is the way too long nose which throws the proportions all off.
i'm thinking were they went wrong, IMHO, is they didn't do a retro 'theme', they tried to make '53 parts that fit on a c-5. the big, toothy grill, the chrome bumpers, just not working for me. i'd rather see a retro style done the same way the new thunderbird or SSR is done. i want it to remind me of the heritage, not actually try to recapture it.
what's your thoughts?

Not for me I’m afraid. Some elements have been done well and work in isolation, but viewed as a whole it doesn’t quite “do it”. Nice idea, and I have to say very well executed, build quality wise (got to see one up close and personal at Monterey), but I think, if was in the market (or had the spare cash!) I’d go for a standard C5 convertible, or a ZR1…..

WOW! i thought i was the only one who didn't like it. as stated above, there are many elements that are done very well and the build quality is excellent but they just don't come together right for me. i did see this car, one of the first ones at SEMA last year and it's definately well done. in fact, i have more of an appreciation for this car in person than in pictures (just like the c-5) but even so, it still comes of as "just not quite right".
my personal report card, i'd give it an A for effort but a C for execution.
on the same vein as above, if i had the money to buy a car like this, i'd buy a stock z06 and still have enough left over for a nice shark or late c-4

I absolutely hate the magna steyr, I think it's an abomination. If someone gave one to me I'd rip off the glass and install this:
(this kit is on ebay in germany for around 3000$)
Marck

I'm with you, I don't like it either. The C5 looks much better as it was designed.

As a tribute to the 1953 style, on a 50th anniv. chassis I like it.
I always thought the 50th should have been a polo white Vert with red interior. Maybe later on when the 2003's come down in price and the used ones show up, I will try and find a white / red combo and install that package on it.
On a Z06 or any other year C5 -- :U

Give me one and I'll take it, try to sell me one, and I'll pass!

I don't like it either. If they want something like that, they should build a modified C1 platform, and make the C5 drivetrain fit the C1 body, not the other way around. Just my opinion

If this is the car you mean, well, I'd take it if someone gave it to me or I won a raffle. I've seen it a couple times and it's not bad. I think GM should have made one of these for each dealer as a 50th Commemorative Edition rather than putting a new paint color & badges on the same old C5. Would I buy one? Nope, not when I could buy a first class 69 BB and have money left over.

If that is the car in question, then put me in the "not my style" group. I looked at the photos for awhile to try and figure out what looks "not quite right" w/ it. Heres what I came up with:
1.) I think the angle of the windshield does not match well with the nose of the car. It's probably because I'm used to seeing that body style w/ a windshield that is smaller and less severely slanted.
2.) The back end actually looks a little too big for the rest of the cars proportions.
I think the idea is  though...

Actually they are kinda nice in person. Much more than just some kit car.
If the money was laying around I wouldn't mind having one because of the uniqueness and they are well put together but what would really make the car nice would've been to put all the Z06 performance parts underneath. I would use one in parades, homecomings and the Sunday cruise but the overall styling is just too over the top for me for a regular driver.
I think this one is a Hardtop or maybe just a removable HT convertible....

I think you probably have to like the first series car. Not very many do. I do and I like this car. It looks even better in person. No, I wouldn't spend the money for it unless I was wealthy(very).

I guess I'm the minority, but I like it.
In a sea of thousands of C5s, it's a refreshing change.
