Mark IV BB oil pan----7Quart??
Anyone using a 7 or 8 quart BB oil pan? I found Moroso # 20451 7qt & #20460 8qt. The 7qt is 9 inches deep and the 8quart is 9 3/4" deep.
I was planning on using 20403 6qt (8 inches deep)with integral scraper & windage tray until it was suggested to use a larger capacity pan.
I found this LS-7 pan at GMPP and its only a 5 quart pan! I guess a 6quart pan would be an inprovement then. I plan on using a stock oil pump.
Price Qty. 14091356 - LS-7 Oil Pan $170.00
This five-quart 1965-74 Corvette oil pan has a trap door baffle that controls oil slosh during cornering and heavy braking. A flat metal oil splash baffle (windage tray) P/N 3967854 is included with this assembly to separate the oil in the sump from the crank assembly.
Technical Notes: Used on LS-7 engine assembly P/N 3965774. Windage tray requires four mounting studs P/N 3902885.
Opinions please. Will these larger pans considerably affect my ground clearance?
Thanks

Len,
I'd be more concerned about clearing the power steering cylinder. Many pans that exceed 5 quart have to be modified for a Vette.

The LS7 Pan from the General is one of the best money can buy....and It drops in without mods. Use the long filter also. at the same time I would rop in the LS7 oil pump.....all this can be done in car without pulling the engine! gotta love the design :seeya

I would go with the stock pan having used pans with kicked out sumps you can run into oil filter/ header clerance problems, as far as deep sumps go, on a Corvette 8 inches is as deep as i would go, too little ground clerance there's nothing like the sound of an oil pan hitting pavement :smash: :smash: :smash: :cry to make you feel sick

The Milodon 7qt was suggested (not from CF) to me at one time:
PN Description
30950 Oil pan - 7qt
(8qt total includiing oil filter)
pan will clear 4.5" stroke / 8.5" depth in rear
