locked up rear brakes
i just put on new rotors and pads and bled the brakes. now my rears are locked up! i opened the bleeder screws and cracked the line at the master. i can get them to move by applying power from the motor but its like taking off going up hill. any ideas!! thanks

What brand of rotor did you get? They may be off set to one side making the pad too tight. I would remove the pads and look at the space on both sides.

Re: locked up rear brakes (wombvette)
wayne-- i agree with you that the pads are to tight. i took the caliper off and could turn my rotors. remounted and same thing- could not turn. the rotors are crossdrilled and sloted from brakwarehouse from south carolina. my fronts are fine. i do not understand what space you are talking about?

Your flex lines could also be swollen shut. When you push fluid through the line it works but when the pressure is taken off the suction causes the inside of the line to collapse.... there are no visual signs to this problem so try other things first prior to replacing the lines

Does the brakepad move freely in the caliper?Sometimes you have to ground them off to make them move properly..

Re: locked up rear brakes (hotbrakesracing)
well---stupid is as stupid does-- this is the deal. i got my new rotors in four seperate boxes. they were marked driver side rear;driver side front;pass side rear;pass side front. i grab the two fronts and put them on. i somehow manage to get the other two on the rear and that is where my problem started. it worked out that the rotors were put in the wrongly marked boxes and confirms the fact the rears have a thinner mounting surface than the fronts. it also shows i did not look at the rotors real close because if i had i would have seen the holes for the emergency brake acess hole for the adjuster wheel for the park brake!!!

Re: locked up rear brakes (BSeery)
yep thats all that was wrong--right rotor wrong box--its good the caliper mounting bosses are strong, i came real close to breaking the ears off buy torking them down because the calipers were on fowl-eyeed enough to bind the pads up tight aginst the rotor. top half of inboard pad and bottom half of outboard pad. moarl of story;details... i am going to call him anyway!

Glad you got it figured out. That was the next thing that I was going to ask, did you have a front on a rear? I have seen this many times and actually sometimes you can take care of it by turning the rotors, but you dont want to do that with your new rotors.
